The Hustle Movie Review - May 2019

The Hustle
⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️

Starring:

Anne Hathaway
Rebel Wilson
Alex Sharp

When I saw the trailer for The Hustle I decided I had to see it. I really love the movie Dirty Rotten Scoundrels and this movie is similar but with females as the two lead actors playing scam artists. Check out the trailer:

While I give the original four out of five stars I give this new version only three stars. It was more of a fun movie rather than a funny one. There were some laughs, but the jokes weren't as funny as I expected. There is too much comedy done by Rebel relating to her being overweight. It really didn't come off funny rather it just caused people to gasp. I get the impression that Anne & Rebel didn't get along great since they had no chemistry on screen. To me, Anne has been coming off cold and detached in movies lately. Perhaps her ego is keeping her from having chemistry on screen with other actors. I found her British accent distracting it was so bad and it made no sense that she used it in private with Rebel who knew she was American. Two of her other accents were entertaining, but one she used for such a short time so that was disappointing. This movie was really slow for over half an hour. It started being entertaining and kept my attention when Alex Sharp showed up. Rebel & Alex worked well together and were fun to watch. They should have edited the first thirty to forty minutes so that it was much shorter and moved on to the scene when Alex shows up or totally rewritten the first few scenes. In the beginning, they fast forward through three scams not explaining how they pulled them off. It made me daydream and I didn't find it entertaining. The movie ends where I think the middle should have been. It would have been so much better to see another scam pulled off after the last scene. I can't explain in more detail without giving away the twist, but once you see it you'll know what I mean. It seems they left it so that a sequel could easily be made, but they should have realized without success with the first one a sequel will not be profitable. It was a disappointing movie so I suggest waiting until it's available on demand and on DVD. While I've seen the original movie many times and enjoyed it every time, this one isn't worth watching more than once. If you saw this movie, how many stars do you give it? If not, what's the funniest movie you have seen lately? The funniest movie I have seen lately is Little

Thanks so much for reviewing this one, I really really wanted to watch it, but I agree with your description of Anne Hathaway's acting lately, and Rebel Wilson's jokes. I think I'll wait to see this one at home.
