This is a review of a restaurant located in King, NC called Thai Cafe. This is a review of our first experience which was a take out order. One can eat at the restaurant also since they have tables and booths to sit at. Hubby placed a phone order and picked it up around 4:30 last Saturday. They take about fifteen minutes to have your order ready for pick up. The restaurant wasn't very busy and they were friendly. Their sanitation score is currently 94 which is very good.

We ordered an appetizer called Chicken Lettuce Wraps which is described on their menu as "sautéed onion and garlic served with crispy noodles and fresh lettuce". Oh my were these wraps delicious! We made some lettuce wraps that we received from a subscription box called Home Chef earlier this month that tasted very similar but had pork instead. They are definitely crave worthy, so now when we are craving them, we don't have to make it ourselves which is wonderful. The portion was very generous, I'd say it would feed four easily or two people with leftovers. Unless you are feeling like a little piggy like we were that day, then you'll eat them all in one sitting.

Hubby ordered the Pad Thai with chicken. It's described as "a famous Thai dish of stir fried rice noodles, egg, bean sprouts, scallions and crushed peanut sautéed with a sweet tamarind sauce". Pad Thai is one of his most favorite meals which he craves often. He has been anxiously trying to find a restaurant around here that serves one that tastes like the one he gets from his favorite restaurant, Sushi Thai, which is now a two and half hour drive for us due to relocation. This is the first one that has come close to that version, so he is very happy. He enjoyed it so much that I had to yell at him not to eat it all because the portion was so huge. I made him keep some of it for a snack or lunch the next day. He managed to save some reluctantly and ate it as a snack later that night.

I ordered the Prik Paow Cashew with chicken, but it is available with your choice of vegetarian, pork, beef, shrimp, seafood combo, scallops or squid also. The Pad Thai is also available with those choices. This is a dish I had never had before. Normally I order Japanese food when we go to our favorite Asian restaurant. Since they only have Thai food, this forced me to try something new. It's described as "stir fried cashews, zucchini, carrot, mushrooms, bell pepper, onion and basil in a Thai chili sauce". This was delicious and again a very large portion, half of which I saved for lunch or dinner the next day or two. I ordered it with white rice which was enjoyable, but if you prefer fried rice it's $2 extra. I'm anxious to try a different dish next time. There are so many choices on the menu, it was a difficult decision.

I think I'll try something with green curry next time and definitely another appetizer. Hubby says he will definitely order the Pad Thai again. All of the appetizers look tempting, so my plan is to try them all over time! They also have some very tempting soups which we plan to try once the cooler weather arrives. In addition, they have lunch specials that are available everyday but Saturday when they don't serve lunch and Monday when they are closed. Lunch specials are $2 cheaper and come with soup or salad & a spring roll. What a bargain! We will definitely become one of their regular customers due to their location close to home, their excellent sanitation score, their generous portions and their food being so delicious & served very hot. The food is so hot, I think if you live or work within fifteen minutes of this restaurant that you could order it to go and it would still be hot by the time you arrived home or at your office. Planning a trip to Pilot Mountain? Stop by and get some of their Thai food to go, it would make for the perfect picnic up on the mountain! Go ahead and give this restaurant a try, I highly recommend it! I regret not having tried it sooner.
