I recently finished reading Never Say Never and wanted to share my thoughts. Overall, it is a quick, easy read that is perfect for a weekend.
While I found the beginning slow and felt the author took too long to lay the story's foundation, the pace improved significantly in the middle. Unfortunately, the final third felt rushed, and the ending was disappointingly summarized in just a few paragraphs. It felt as though the final chapters were missing, which is a concern I often have with authors who prioritize quantity over quality. I also noticed a few repeated paragraphs that should have been edited out.
Despite these issues, the love story was entertaining, though cut short, and I would have preferred more detail over a summary of the ending. My favorite part was the main character’s escape to the French countryside; having recently spent a month in Northern France, I found the setting perfect. I also enjoyed the personal connection of sharing the main character’s last name and having a little, white dog. There were moments of both sadness and joy, as I have come to expect from this author. Lastly, I would have preferred it if the setting had not been during the terrifying pandemic.
I give this book a 4 star rating. Danielle Steel has been a favorite of mine since I was a teenager, so I tend to rate her work highly, though I believe others might give this a 3.5-star rating. I admire her longevity as a popular author, but I wish her future releases would focus on longer, more polished stories.
