King has a new Mexican restaurant in town called Amigos Mexican Grill. They finally opened yesterday after a long wait with no word on when they would open until the day before. They are across from the Sheetz gas station in the building that use to be a BBQ restaurant. They have a drive thru and a seating area inside. We visited today, Saturday, around 1 pm and the parking lot was full of customers' cars and they had a couple of customers at the drive thru.

We ordered at the drive thru menu and thirteen minutes later our food was ready. Hubby ordered the Build Your Own Burrito Bowl and chose grilled chicken, white rice, black beans, fajita veggies, green salsa, shredded cheese and sour cream. I love how they have so many options as you can see in the picture of the menu above. It reminds me of what they offer at Chipotle, which is one of my favorite restaurants. Hubby would have given it a score of four out of five stars if it had been served hot, so it gets three stars instead. Perhaps they were waiting on my dish and his got cold while waiting since mine was quite warm, but I wouldn't say hot. The rice & chicken were cooked well, but the chicken didn't have any spices on it which we found very strange for a Mexican restaurant. The sour cream was cold & fresh. It was a very generous portion especially for lunch. I hadn't noticed they had green salsa or I would have ordered that too. So next time I will order a Burrito Bowl with green salsa.

I ordered the Chicken Fajita Quesadilla which came with lettuce, sour cream and guacamole in a separate container. The 12" quesadilla had only chicken and cheese and the chicken didn't have any spices on it. The guacamole was very tasty & fresh, the lettuce was fresh & crisp and the sour cream was cold. I would have given it four out of five stars, if it had spices on the chicken and some green peppers and onions. So I'd have to give it three stars. Perhaps they will step it up with the spices in the future or the chef made a mistake and it was suppose to have spices. It was a very generous portion, so if you aren't really hungry, skip the chips & salsa.

The salsa had mostly a tomato taste with very little spice. Maybe they have mild, medium and hot choices, I'll ask next time I go. We ordered the medium size which is suppose to be 16 oz and it came in three little cups. One cup is enough for one person. The chips were your standard chips, they were not warm though. They are served in a lunch bag and it's about half full, plenty for one person.

It's nice to have a new drive thru restaurant in King and I always like to support new businesses. Hopefully they will improve on the spices and the temperature of the food as they get use to working as a team. I would say it's worth giving them a try and we will return soon. I'd also like to see the sanitation score displayed on the drive thru window.

UPDATE - They no longer serve breakfast and now open at 11 am for lunch. I went back twice. The first time I was given refried beans instead of black beans. The noise at the intersection makes it difficult to hear at the drive thru. The second time they forgot to put the green salsa on top. Both times the chicken wasn't hot nor have they added spices. Let me know if they start to add spices to the chicken, until then I won't be going back. Their sanitation score is now up and it's 95.

I need restaurant suggestions since we recently moved here. So please comment below! I have several more restaurant reviews in the works, so be sure to stop by again soon. Check out my Restaurant Reviews Pinterest Board which also has restaurants in the Raleigh, Triangle area and Charlotte.

  1. Wasn't too impressed. The beef taco tasted more like tomato then taco spices. The child did not like the "white" cheese. Don't think we'll be going back
