Blueberry Pancakes - $6.39
Steak & Eggs - $9.99
This is a review of a breakfast and lunch restaurant located in Fuquay Varina, North Carolina called Eggs Up Grill. They are located on the left side of Harris Teeter in the Sexton Commons shopping center near the Waffle House. They are open from 6 am until 2 pm every day. The atmosphere is similar to that of a fast food restaurant yet it's not fast food. The booths are very uncomfortable due to not being able to move the table closer or further away. The waiting area is awkward with the register and the lines of people coming and going in such a small space. We were seated after waiting a couple of minutes when we arrived around 1:15 pm on a Sunday.
It took the waitress over ten minutes to show up to the table. The restaurant was a mess with food on the floor and many tables had not been cleared even though the customers were gone. The photo above shows what it looked like after the tables and floor were cleaned. I was surprised to see who our waitress was since she had been talking to a co-worker the entire time we waited for her. She had a very hard time trying to figure out how to place our order on the tablet she was holding. I ordered the Blueberry Pancakes which do not come with eggs yet she asked me how I wanted my eggs. I explained to her that the menu says the pancakes are made with eggs not that they come with eggs. Then she looked at my menu getting in my personal space and making me uncomfortable. I think she needed glasses and/or she doesn't understand one shouldn't stand too close to the customers. It took her forever to place our order and she was quite annoying with all her questioning. She stated that she was new, well that's not an excuse, take the menu home and study it and ask your boss how to place orders! All that time she spent chatting up her coworker she could have been studying the menu! I've had better service at McDonald's and this was a woman, not a teenager. I noticed on the table they had Log Cabin Syrup, this is when I should have left. They do not warm up the syrup for you and it's fake syrup made with unhealthy ingredients. I really regret not leaving at this point. We waited over twenty minutes for our orders to arrive and the restaurant had only a few customers as shown in the above photo. The waitress kept coming to the table interrupting our conversation even before the food arrived which we found annoying. At one point she was especially rude which she later apologized for though I'm not sure if it was sincere or just trying to ensure she got a tip. I ordered the Blueberry Pancakes since I had not had them in a very long time due to Hubby going on a low carb diet and not making them at home anymore. They were extremely dry and they lacked flavor so much so that I only took a few bites and left the rest. We traveled over to McDonald's afterward to get something for me to eat, it was that bad. She served me a large Orange Juice without asking me which size I wanted. Hubby ordered the Steak & Eggs and he really enjoyed the steak which was quite surprising though it was very small and he left without being full. The eggs and grits were ok. I was going to eat the bread that came with Hubby's meal but it just looked gross the way it was unevenly and overly buttered. He wasn't asked which flavor jam he wanted and there was only one jam for two pieces of bread.
It was a horrible experience and we will not return. I do not recommend this restaurant. This is the 3rd restaurant that has been in this retail space, the previous two were Italian restaurants. I really miss the first one and the 2nd one was tasty but overpriced. Fuquay Varina is really lacking in good restaurants which is crazy because it's such a busy city with tons of traffic. The restaurants I recommend in Fuquay are Chipotle which has improved since they opened, Smithfield's, Chick-fil-A and El Lobo. We used to love Cookout for a fast meal but now they overcook the burgers and the fries are greasy. What's your favorite restaurant in Fuquay? Sorry to hear you had a bad food experience. I hate going into a restaurant thinking I'm going to get at least decent food and it doesn't happen.
Thanks, Terra :) That's the negative of doing restaurant reviews. It's so tempting to just go to the same couple of favorite restaurants to avoid disappointment.
