Winter Haul 2018
Check out my first purchase of winter candles from Bath & Body Works for 2018. Note the returning favorites of Evergreen, Holiday, Winter, Fresh Balsam and Twisted Peppermint. The new scents are Orange Chocolate Truffle and Spiced Gingerbread Swirl. I'm happy they have labels that I really like this year. Not the best ever, but far superior to last year! I'm so happy they brought back Holiday this year since last year it was missing. I'll have to stock up on this one, but I wanted to buy one first to make sure it was as good as previous batches. I also bought another fall favorite, Leaves. My favorite scents are sold in the fall and winter, so I stock up so I can enjoy them year round. These candles were on sale for $12.95 and I used a 25% off coupon I received in the mail, so that lowered them down to only $9.71 each. They normally cost $24.50 each. Be sure to always use a coupon when shopping at this store! Featured in the photo above are the following candles & an adorable fox magnet:
- Leaves - crisp red apple, golden nectar, and warm clove spice
- Fox Candle Topper - faux fur fox with a magnet to attach to candle lids
- Orange Chocolate Truffle - orange zest, sea salt, and rich dark chocolate
- Evergreen - cedarwood & cinnamon essential oils with notes of fir needle & pine
- Holiday - nutmeg & clove essential oils with notes of cinnamon & cardamom
- Winter - fir needle & orange essential oils with notes of clove & citrus
- Spiced Gingerbread Swirl - gingersnap cookie, cinnamon, and nutmeg
- Fresh Balsam - woodland balsam, crisp eucalyptus, fir branches, and cedarwood
- Twisted Peppermint - cool peppermint, sugared snow, vanilla buttercream, fresh balsam and a hint of musk
Monday, October 29th they reset their store shelves with the winter collection and they were available online October 27th. I ordered online since I had a rare 25% off coupon that was about to expire and the candles were on sale. When they reset the shelves in their stores the candles weren't on sale. I prefer ordering online since I get to study all the scents, make the difficult decision of which ones to order and place them all in my cart without searching store shelves and hoping they are all in stock. Oh my, look at how adorable that fox magnet is! Here's a close up of his cuteness:
They have a couple other faux fur animal magnets in stores, but so far online he's the only one available. You may only find them in White Barn stores rather than the regular Bath & Body Works stores. I'm grateful that we finally have a White Barn store in our area again. They closed the one in the mall many years ago and I really miss it. The one we have is a combination store which is better than nothing. They have some home decor that is really wonderful that isn't sold in the regular stores. They tend to be a bit pricey though, so I make sure I save my best coupons for them. They have a small amount per store so they tend to sell out. It's not a good idea to wait until they go on sale, by the time that day rolls around odds are they will be gone. Your best bet is to use a coupon the day you see it on the shelf. They tend to last a bit longer online, but you will still need to be quick to order. Keep in mind that these are items that sell for at least double their original price on eBay later. The ceramic luminaries also sell out quickly, so if you see one you want, buy it now or you'll have buyers regret or pay big bucks on eBay. I bought the Christmas House Luminary also in this shipment, stay tuned for a review.
Ok, on to the candle reviews. Leaves is one of my top favorites and I stock up in the fall every year. Note that fall candles arrive around August and around Halloween they put them on sale for 50% off. They will not be restocked so be sure to stock up during this time. My husband also favors this one, it's the perfect fall scent. It smells like a red apple pie baking in the oven. It has the perfect mix of apple with just the right amount of spice. Awesome! Highly recommend you snag this beauty if you haven't already.
Orange Chocolate Truffle is new and since I buy at least one Terry's Chocolate Oranges during the holiday season I just had to try this candle. It has a medium throw with the delightful smell of milk chocolate with a hint of orange. If you haven't tried this chocolate you must and I also recommend the matching candle. I recommend smacking the chocolate orange on the countertop to break it into slices, place in a Ziploc bag and refrigerate prior to eating. It tastes better refrigerated! It can be found at World Market, Amazon and sometimes Target & Walmart. The candle is a little slow to pool, so be sure you have a couple hours to burn it before lighting it. I found my new Christmas Luminary House helped it pool quicker.
Evergreen is a fancier version of Fresh Balsam. If you love the smell of a Christmas tree, this one is a must. I stock up on this one every year, it is fabulous and Hubby is a fan also. Fresh Balsam is more of a fresh, clean scent since it has eucalyptus. It will instantly get rid of any cooking smells or any other scent that is bothering you. Fresh Balsam is another one I stock up on and enjoy year round. Nothing better than burning this candle on a stinky, rainy, humid and hot summer day! Both have a strong throw and quickly create a calming and fresh scent.
Holiday oh Holiday how I love you! This candle wasn't available last year while it's normally available year after year. It is the only cinnamon candle I love. They offer several different cinnamon candles but this one is far superior to the rest. This one instantly takes me back to the 70's and smells just like a candle my Mum would burn during Christmas time. While other candles have a plain cinnamon scent, this one is the fancy version with a more complex combination. The addition of cardamom, nutmeg, and clove make it the perfect holiday candle. I'll be stocking up on this one in case they don't offer it next year.
Winter is a candle my Hubby snags for his office. If this one goes missing I know where to find it! I have to keep several of these on hand to keep up with demand. It's also a lovely scent to enjoy year round. This one is hard to describe, you just have to give it a sniff yourself. It's a complex combination of spices, perfume and fir needles. It's what I consider a fancy mix, it smells pricey. It also has a strong throw.
Twisted Peppermint is another fan favorite that I also love and stock up on to enjoy year round. It's another fresh clean scent that cleans the air and gets rid of unfavorable scents in your home. It's not a plain peppermint scent, it's another complex combination with a strong throw. The mix of peppermint with sweet vanilla, just a hint of balsam and an ever so slight hint of musk is fabulous. I'm not normally a fan of musk, but they have combined it perfectly with the other scents to make a lovely candle. They also offer this in their body care line. The matching shower gel has a cooling, fresh and clean scent. I'm not a fan of the ingredients in their shower gel, not very healthy, but it sure does smell wonderful.
Spiced Gingerbread Swirl is a new scent added to their line this year. This one has a light throw, I liked previous creations with gingerbread more. I think they made it less of a bakery scent since they also offer this in their body care line and that may be a bit of a strange scent to wear. They are also offering Spiced Gingerbread and Gingerbread & Caramel candles this year. I'm going to try to find them in stores and give them a sniff to see which one has the strongest gingerbread scent since that's what I prefer. I think it was Spiced Gingerbread that I liked previously, perhaps I'll exchange for that one. It's described as vanilla icing, cinnamon sugar, and fresh ground nutmeg.
What are your must-buy scents for winter and which ones do you stock up on to enjoy year round? I purchase 90% of my candles from August until January from their fall and winter collections. They are my favorite scents since I'm not really into florals or fruity scents that they offer in the spring and summer. The only ones I purchase during that time are the baked goods scents and their London candle aka Lemon & Tea. What season is your favorite at Bath & Body Works?

It's been a while since I've been to B&BW. I think I'd really like the Orange Chocolate Truffle candle.
Thank you for your review of the Orange Chocolate Truffle candle. I went in to sniff the new arrivals the other day and that was by far my favorite. I tend to like a strong throw, but sometimes that makes the scents too overpowering (Bourbon Pumpkin was like that for me). I’ll pick up one of them while the sale is on. I’m disappointed that some of the new fruity scents they got in have “sweet musk” as one of the notes. Musk of any kind makes me want to gag. Such a bummer b/c fruity and gourmand candles are my favorite. I’m going to stock up on Hot Cocoa and Cream since Cider Lane is nowhere to be found. I picked one up right when it showed up but didn’t realize how much I loved it until it was no longer available. The way B&BW does their stock baffles me - scents that sell like crazy aren’t brought back, even with different packaging, while others are available with 4 different labels. So frustrating.
You should drop by a store and check out all the fall, winter and holiday goodies!
yw, Monique :) I'd didn't try Bourbon Pumpkin, want to but can't buy 'em all. Yeah, I'm not a fan of musk either unless it's barely there. Yeah, their fall stock has been light. Peanut Brittle was hard to find even when it just hit the shelves and then it was gone. I really dislike how they aren't bringing in anymore fall candles weeks before Thanksgiving. I feel like I have to rush to stock up on my favs and I prefer to spread out my spending. Recent years they haven't been restocking and there isn't much left way too soon. Yeah, what is up with so many different labels for one scent?! I could understand maybe two for ones that aren't in a holiday color like pink or blue wax. I prefer green and red for holiday candles, so that would make sence, but 6 different green ones for Balsam?! Crazy!
