This is a review of our 11th delivery from a weekly food subscription box called Sun Basket. Hubby and I gave one recipe four out of five stars, one recipe three and a half stars and one recipe three stars. Calories ranged from 230 to 750 and preparation time ranged from twenty-five minutes to sixty. Actual preparation time ranged from thirty-eight minutes to two hours. Two of the recipes are Paleo and gluten free. All of the ingredients arrived in great shape except one of the lamb patties which had it's seal broken, but it was still edible.
Thai Turkey & Cabbage Salad with Basil & Mint
We gave this recipe four out of five stars. The slaw and dressing were delicious. The turkey cooked with lemongrass paste was scrumptious and the topping of shredded coconut and cashews was a perfect addition. We would have liked a bit more spice, the spice provided was sambal oelek. It was a generous portion and it came in at 720 calories. Preparation time was estimated at twenty-five to thirty-five minutes and it took Hubby thirty-eight minutes. This is a Paleo and gluten free recipe.
Williams-Sonoma Italian Sausage & Apple Stuffing
This recipe was enough for eight to ten servings, so we had a lot of leftovers. I would have preferred that they provide two side dishes with less servings. We gave this one three out of five stars. It was a tasty dish with lots of texture, but we wished we would have used much less bread so that there was more sausage per serving. The bread overwhelmed the dish. It made the house smell like Thanksgiving when it was cooking which was perfect since we cooked it on Thanksgiving! Cooking time was estimated at fifty to sixty minutes and it took Hubby two hours! Mind you cooking time was twelve minutes baking the bread, fifteen minutes pan cooking the sausage and then forty minutes to bake the entire dish. It came in at only 230 calories per serving and it was a very filling serving.
Middle Eastern Lamb Beef Patties with Pear Chutney & Cauliflower Rice
Anytime there is a dish with lamb I order it since we both love lamb. We gave the lamb and chutney four out of five stars and the side dish only three stars. So we couldn't decide between three or four stars for this dish so we give it three and half. We are use to spicy chutney yet this sweet version we found to be delicious. The cauliflower just had salt, pepper and parsley added to it, it really needed something extra. This is a Paleo and gluten free recipe. This one came in at 750 calories and it was a healthy portion. It indicated thirty-five to forty-five minutes preparation time and it took Hubby an hour.
This wasn't our favorite week of recipes since previous ones had more four and five star recipes. Our 12th box arrived today and we gave tonight's recipe five stars, that's what we have come to expect from Sun Basket. It had black garlic in it that was so scrumptious! Have you ever had black garlic before? It was our first try and now I need to figure out how to get my hands on more! If you haven't tried Sun Basket before I highly recommend you give it a try and at 50% off how can you resist?! Snag my coupon below via the link and let me know how you like it.
