This is a review of the 11th box we have purchased from Plated, a food subscription box that costs $72 for three recipes & all of the ingredients needed for two people. I'm sad to report this is the worst box we have received so far from them. I ordered it because of the Turkish meal, Beef Gozleme with Tahini & Roasted Carrots. We absolutely love Turkish food and since relocating we really miss our favorite Turkish restaurant, so I just had to order it. Out of the three recipes we give the Sausage, Summer Squash & Corn Stir-Fry with Basil & Sweet Peppers first place, second place goes the the Chicken Avocado Burger and last place definitely goes to the Beef Gozleme.

Sausage, Summer Squash & Corn Stir-Fry with Basil & Sweet Peppers

This recipe was pretty good, I just wish there had been more of it. It was more of a lunch sized portion. The corn and basil weren't in great shape, so parts of them had to be thrown out, so that did reduce some of the quantity. Since when did they start putting the herbs in a sealed white mailing envelope? Bad idea! I couldn't stop shaking my head in disbelief when I pulled that out of the box. This is the company that normally sends produce in special green bags that reduce the gasses that produce make hence allowing them to stay fresh longer! So why go from best to worst? Anyway, we both love squash, zucchini and chicken sausage, so it was very enjoyable to us. It was just that a snack was necessary a few hours later. It came in at about 45 minutes of preparation and 440 calories. Seems like it took too long for quite a simple recipe. Hubby also complained that they gave us too little oregano and red pepper. He added more red pepper and we were out of oregano, so we couldn't add any more of that.

Beef Gozleme with Tahini & Roasted Carrots

This recipe was the most disappointing of all the Plated recipes we have made and yet it was the one that caused me to order this week. Since they don't let you look at the recipe instructions prior to ordering, I didn't realize that they were going to have us make the dough from scratch! That's certainly not something anyone wants to do after a long day at work. Perhaps even more disappointing was the fact that they sent us white flour. I avoid it as much as possible since white flour converts to sugar in your body and it has no nutritional value. Usually I don't have to worry about Plated sending things like that since this is not the norm, so I was quite shocked it wasn't wheat, rye or something other than white flour. The recipe instructions were too brief. The lemon on the carrots caused it to burn during baking and made quite a mess to clean up on the baking sheet. There wasn't enough ground beef and too much mint. It should have been lamb or a lamb and beef mix, not just beef since it was suppose to be Turkish. The tahini sauce was a mess. It was too runny and the thin container it was in was damaged during shipping. One word for this recipe: disappointment! This recipe took about one very long hour filled with regret & frustration and had 650 calories.

Chicken Avocado Burgers with Sweet Potato Fries & Aioli

I haven't been ordering much from Plated lately since my favorite is Home Chef, but it appears the quality is going down hill. The buns for this burger were just not the quality I expect from Plated. They are more expensive than their competition, so I expect high quality ingredients. This recipe was just ok, nothing exciting and not a recipe I would repeat. The greek yogurt and mayo were in thin, little containers that were damaged during shipping. This recipe took about 40 mins and had 740 calories. What? 740 calories, why? It had very little flavor. Geez! That dish wasn't worth the calories! Oh my, now that I realize the calorie count, I give it an even lower score.
