This is a review of the 11th box we have received from Home Chef. This week our favorite recipe was the Key Lime Pie Smoothies. Our second favorite was the Dijon & Panko Crusted Chicken, third was the Steak Fajita Bowl, fourth was the Pork Sausage Breakfast Bagel and last place goes to the Fiesta Grilled Chicken.

Key Lime Pie Smoothies with Pineapple, Kale & Graham Crackers

This is the by far our most favorite smoothie recipe they have come up with so far. Wow, was that delicious! It tasted like you blended a piece of key lime pie in your blender which is crazy because the ingredients were pineapple, kale, orange juice, orange, lime and graham crackers! Only the lime and graham crackers are normally used to make key lime pie and yet it tasted just like it. It was a bit tart for us, so we added some honey. Wow, I'm craving it as I type this. This is must repeat recipe for us for sure. Oh how I wish I had the ingredients in the house to make it this very minute! The ingredients are going on my grocery list and we will be making this again very soon. I always find it amazing how kale doesn't change the taste of a fruit smoothie, yet you get all the wonderful nutrition it provides. It only had 205 calories and it took longer than most smoothies, about 15 minutes but it was worth the extra time! This recipe is magical!

Dijon & Panko Crusted Chicken with Roasted Carrots & Garlic Mashed Potatoes

We were in awe and disbelief that these mashed potatoes were the best we have ever had. We make some really good mashed potatoes, but somehow these were so fluffy and even more delicious than any of our own creations. Hubby whipped them by hand and they had a texture that you would swear was made with a mixer! They are simply made with butter, heavy cream, parsley, garlic, salt & pepper and yet so incredibly fluffy and delicious. The carrots were really awesome too! Simply coat the carrots with olive oil, salt and pepper and roast in the oven for 10-12 minutes. Those two sides were heavenly. Hubby loved the chicken made with dijon mustard and panko, but I'm not a big fan of mustard, so I didn't enjoy it as much. This dish had 732 calories and took around 35 minutes to prepare.

Steak Fajita Bowl with Spanish Rice, Black Beans & Sautéed Peppers

This recipe was delicious also. The steak was very moist and tender and the fajita seasoning on it was especially yummy. I was skeptical about making our own tortilla strips, but it was easy and they were very crisp and enjoyable. We would have liked more cheese, sour cream and cilantro. Half a can of black beans per person was too much and there was too much red bell pepper. It was a huge serving and I just realized I forgot to eat my leftovers. It was 678 calories if you ate it all, which I could not, but Hubby did. It took about 35 minutes to prepare.

Pork Sausage Breakfast Bagel with Fluffy Eggs, Cheddar Cheese & Chive Skillet Potatoes

In the picture it showed a bagel with seeds on it, we received just plain bagels. They weren't the quality I have come to expect from Home Chef, so that was disappointing. The eggs weren't great and the tomato was of low quality. Overall, this recipe was a disappointment. The chive skillet potatoes were the best part. This recipe had 486 calories and I only ate half the bagel since I didn't like it and often I will take off the top or bottom bun so that there are less calories and more flavor.

Fiesta Grilled Chicken with Quinoa Pilaf & Pickled Sweet Corn Salad

I didn't realize that this recipe had pickled corn salad or I would not have ordered it. I will pay more attention next time. I can't eat anything pickled since it will cause stomach distress for days up to a month due to IBS, so we skipped that part of the recipe. We both disliked this recipe, we just ate some of it because we were hungry. Mind you, we didn't use the sugar or white wine vinegar, perhaps it would have tasted better pickled. The southwest seasoning was tart, the quinoa had a horrible texture and adding lime to everything made it all tart. There wasn't enough cilantro and the red onion and jalapeño would have tasted better uncooked. This recipe had 613 calories and it took about 45 minutes to make, 10 minutes longer than the recipe indicated. That seems like a lot of calories for what it was.

Well there you have it, a review of our latest Home Chef box which included three really delightful recipes, one that was just ok and one we disliked. This week we received a shipment from Plated instead because they had a Turkish recipe and I haven't been able to find a Turkish restaurant in our new location. We really love Turkish food and since we moved away, we miss the Turkish restaurant we frequented so much. I'm really missing Home Chef's smoothie recipe this week. Next week we will be expecting the following recipes from Home Chef:
  1. Brasserie Style Sirlion Steak with Truffle Frites, Asparagus & Herb Butter
  2. Turkey & Goat Cheese Meatballs with Pesto Spaghetti & Baby Arugula
  3. Raspberry Chia Smoothie with Apple, Yogurt & Honey
  4. Chicken & Cheese Enchiladas with Jalapeño, Corn & Cheese
