Hustlers Movie Review - Fall 2019

⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️

Starring:

Constance Wu as Destiny
Jennifer Lopez as Ramona
Lili Reinhart as Annabelle
Cardi B as Diamond
Julia Stiles as Elizabeth

I'm a fan of Constance Wu and Jennifer Lopez, so I wanted to see this movie. While I thought this movie could wait until DVD, since we had time to see another movie during Hubby's rare time off work, this was all that was left. There's no need to see it in the theatre, there weren't any scenes that were theatre worthy and we both gave it only three out of five stars. The movie trailer shows the parts of the movie that are about getting revenge on strip club customers which is based on a true story. It's also about the friendship between Destiny and Ramona. Take a look at the trailer:

Hustlers is centered around Destiny and her perspective. Her story is told by talking to a reporter and it moves back and forth between the interview and the past many times. I dislike it when a movie goes back and forth between the present and the past and this movie does it way too much. It loses momentum as a result. I prefer to watch the story in chronological order so that I can guess what may happen in the future or simply to see it the way it happened. Annabelle makes the audience laugh in a couple of scenes. Her looks, expressions, and mannerisms remind me of the late actress Brittany Murphy. This movie felt a bit long and at times it felt repetitive. I would have liked to see some beautiful outdoor scenes and real footage of New York City. Plus, if the characters had gone on holiday somewhere beautiful, that would have made it theatre worthy. Too many scenes were shot on a set. Maybe they spent so much money on Jennifer Lopez's paycheck they had little left in the budget to have more interesting sets or outdoor scenes. Also, more time spent on the joy of their success would have been enjoyable. Most of the scenes were about their struggle and pain, and one final scene has Destiny crying with tears running down her face. Ramona leaves us with the depressing thought that everyone is a hustler. Those final scenes left me feeling sad.

If you are a fan of Jennifer and Constance, I recommend seeing it on DVD, otherwise, you can skip this one. One or both are on the screen for most of the movie. At times this movie had the feel of a TV movie perhaps on the Lifetime channel. I prefer Jennifer in romantic comedies over drama. As for Constance, her last movie Crazy Rich Asians was awesome. That one had some incredibly beautiful scenery and sets.

What movies have you seen lately that you enjoyed? I highly recommend Downton Abbey, go see it now! It's a must-see on the big screen!

Have a PEACEful Day!
