This is a restaurant review for an Ethiopian restaurant located in Cary, North Carolina called Awazé. We visited on a Saturday around noon and they had only one other customer. This is a good time to visit if you're not a fan of crowds. Their health score is 97.5 which is very good. They are open Monday to Thursday from 11 am until 9:30 pm and Friday & Saturday they are open until 10 pm. Note that they are closed on Sundays. There are several tables inside and a couple located outside. It's nicely decorated with lovely paintings. We were immediately greeted by a friendly man and offered any table to sit at. 

There aren't a lot of dishes to chose from, so it's pretty easy to decide. After reading reviews I decided I wanted to try the Tibs and chose chicken. They also offer beef for $2 more and lamb for $4 more. It's described as "lean chicken sautéed with fresh rosemary, onions, jalapeño peppers, fresh tomatoes and garlic, sautéed in our special awaze sauce". I love all of those ingredients, so it was a must to try this dish. I really enjoyed it, it tasted like a home cooked meal and it was comforting and scrumptious. I just wish it had been a larger portion. It was served on a piece of Injera which is a sourdough flatbread with a spongy texture. The waiter also brought an extremely generous portion of Injera in a basket. I didn't care for the sour flavor nor the texture so I only ate part of the one piece that my Tibs was laying on. If I had eaten a few more pieces then it would have been more filling. I highly recommend this dish. Hubby had the Kikil which is described as "lamb cube stew mixed with onion, garlic, ginger, jalapeño, rosemary, turmeric". Hubby loved it, he just wished it had been a larger portion with more lamb. I had a taste and it was awesome. It tasted like it had been labored over for hours. The bones are included for more flavor.  It's only available Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Sodas are delivered to the table in their cans with a glass of ice.

Oh boy, I'm hungry just thinking of the two dishes we tried. I highly recommend you give this restaurant a try soon. While the prices may be a bit higher and the portions a bit smaller, it's delicious and tastes homemade. What's your favorite restaurant in Cary?
