This is a review of our 24th delivery from a weekly food subscription box called Hello Fresh. This week we gave two recipes five out of five stars and one recipe four stars. Calories ranged from 730 to 810 and preparation time stated on the recipe cards ranges from 25 to 55 minutes. Actual preparation time ranged from 39 minutes to an hour.
Grilled Cheddar Burgers with Chipotle Ketchup, Green Salad, and Dill Pickle
We gave this recipe four out of five stars, it was very tasty. Look at the photo, the burger has a happy face and it's sticking out his tongue! This wasn't done on purpose, but it certainly made me laugh! It's the placement of the pickles and the tomato accidentally sticking to the burger. Wow, what a quality pickle, as soon as I opened the bag the smell was so very tempting. I can't eat anything pickled due to IBS, but I just had to have a bite of this one. So yummy! The chipotle ketchup spoiled me, now plain ketchup won't be good enough for me! It is so scrumptious. The bun and the ground beef were of high quality. We would have liked a bit more cheese, but we tend to be little piggies when it comes to cheese. The salad dressing was simply made with lime juice and olive oil. We would have liked some garlic, cilantro or something to liven it up a bit, so this is kept the recipe from being five stars. This dish has 740 calories. It took 45 minutes to prepare while the recipe card states 25 minutes. Just thinking about this burger is making me hungry! It was a healthy portion.
Swedish Meatloaves with Mashed Potatoes, Roasted Carrots, and Currant Jam
We gave this recipe five out of five stars and I have Swedish heritage so I am picky. I'm not a fan of meatloaf, but anytime I see a Swedish recipe I just have to order it. I absolutely loved the meatloaf which is shocking. It was so incredibly delicious, just the thought of it makes me want to add all the ingredients to my shopping list and make it again. The seasoning was perfect. Mind you, Hubby changed it so that it was low carb. He skipped the bread and added shredded parmesan/romano cheese and egg instead. The gravy tasted so much like the gravy my Mum uses on her Swedish meatballs, it is to die for. After you remove the meatloaf from the pan, add 1 tbsp butter and minced onion to the pan and cook for 2 minutes. Add 1 tbsp flour and stir for 1 minute. Whisk in 1/2 cup filtered water, 1/4 cup milk and beef stock concentrate. Bring to a simmer and whisk until thickened about one minute. Then add salt, pepper, and nutmeg. Other meal kit companies haven't been able to nail this sauce like Hello Fresh. Bravo, Hello Fresh! They gave us very large carrots, so we didn't use them all and it was a generous portion of potatoes. To save time, Hubby just baked the potatoes rather than making them into mashed potatoes since we've had recipes that included mashed potatoes a lot lately. This recipe has 810 calories and it took around one hour to prepare while the recipe card states 55 minutes.
Pork and Poblano Tacos with Kiwi Salsa and Lime Crema
We gave this recipe five out of five stars, it was a wonderful change from traditional tacos. The kiwi salsa and the lime crema were absolutely delicious! The salsa is made with kiwi, red onion, cilantro, lime juice, salt, pepper, and tomato. The lime crema is simply made with sour cream, salt, pepper and lime juice. Once you try it, you'll never go back to just sour cream again! The only thing we would change is to add more spice. It has 750 calories and it took 39 minutes to prepare. The recipe card stated 45 minutes preparation time. It was a generous portion.
It was another wonderful week of recipes and we are working on our 25th box this weekend. I highly recommend you give Hello Fresh a try, their recipes have been knocking it out of the park lately! Those first two meals look especially delicious. Sounds like you got a real good kit this time.
It was an awesome week. Hello Fresh has been scrumptious lately.
I have not tried any weekly meal boxes but now that school is back in and we have football practices 2-3 times a week I have been looking into some.
