Birchbox - October 2013

Beauty Buzz

This is a monthly cosmetic subscription service from Birchbox for $10 per month.  There are several different boxes, so not everyone receives the sample products.  Included in my October box were the following products:
  1. ChapStick - Hydration Lock Eight Hour Moisture
  2. The Balm - Stainiac in Beauty Queen
  3. DDF - Wrinkle Resist Plus Pore Minimizer Moisturizing Serum
  4. Shea Terra Organics - Rose Hips Black Soap Deep Pore Facial Cleanser
  5. Alison Raffaele - Reality Base Foundation
I don't need another ChapStick nor any more lip balm, so that will be up for sale on my Blog Sale.  The DDF Serum made my skin look oily after about an hour.  I will be giving that to a friend who has dry skin.  I looked at the reviews and others with combination skin agreed. I prefer using a non moisturizing primer or one that controls oil and creates a matte finish.  I recommend Laura Geller's Spackle.  The black soap is a dark black color which is strange and it smells bad.  I was hoping for a rose scent, it smelled like burnt coffee to me.  I was really surprised it smelled bad since their white chocolate body lotion smells delicious.  It cleaned ok, but not as well as my current cleansers from Bare Escentuals and Philosophy.  The foundation is two shades too dark for me, so I will be selling or passing it on to a friend with darker skin.  It's disappointing to receive a foundation in the wrong color since we do fill out profiles indicating what skin tone we are.  I'm not happy with this month's box.  Last month was much better suited for my needs.
