Southern Harvey's Sweet Potato Delights - Dog Cookie Recipe

Southern Harvey's Sweet Potato Delights

Ingredients:

1     Cup oat flour
1     Large sweet potato
2/3 Cup Quaker Oats
3     Tablespoons chicken broth
1      Large egg

Directions:

Preheat oven to 300° F.

Starting with 1 large sweet potato:
 Wash with:

Microwave sweet potato for 7-8 minutes.  Open microwave and squeeze sweet potato with a kitchen towel.  It will be very soft and squishy indicating it has been cooked long enough.  Let cool till it's cool enough to touch.   Scoop out center of sweet potato with a  spoon and place in mixing bowl.  Make sure no skin is included (sweet potato skin is bad for dogs).

Add 1 cup of Oat Flour to bowl:
+ 2/3 cup of Quaker Oats:
+ 3 tablespoons chicken broth:
(my dogs also get this broth sprinkled on their Solid Gold dry food each night)
+ 1 large egg:

Mix with fork:

Roll into 15 or 30 balls depending on size preference and place on cookie sheet. Photo below shows larger sized balls.  You may press down on them with a spoon if you want a flatter cookie instead of round.  Cook at 300° F for 45 minutes.

Finished cookies:

Let cookies cool and give out samples to your dogs.  Place rest of cookies in a ziploc bag and place in the refrigerator for future consumption.  Taste tested with lip smacking approval by Leo, Teddy, Harvey & Issy on July 22nd 2012.  Cookies named after our 9 year old Shih Tzu named Harvey who was born & lives in North Carolina.  He's the ultimate southern gentleman!

  3. I look forward to trying this and other recipes on my dogs. I will, however, use my standard oven instead of the microwave...
