This is a review of a weekly subscription box called Home ChefOut of the five recipes we gave two five stars, two four stars and one three out of five stars. It was an amazing week of recipes that we were delighted by.

Each week they offer twelve recipes and a fruit basket to chose from. One is a smoothie, one is breakfast and usually three of them are vegetarian. Some are low calorie, low carb and some are gluten free. Each dinner is $9.95, breakfast is $9.95, smoothies are $4.95 and the fruit is $4.95. Shipping is free for orders of $40 or more.

Classic Christmas Ham with Pineapple Clove Glaze, Potatoes Au Gratin & Roasted Broccoli

What a wonderful meal we had on Christmas Eve! We don't really enjoy having a ton of ham leftovers, so this was perfect for us. We gave this retro recipe four out of five stars. It was amazingly delicious! The ham was tender and thick and the sauce was perfection. The Potatoes Au Gratin were a healthier version, but I would have preferred a bit more cheese. I also prefer my broccoli steamed rather than baked. It was a generous portion and I shared lots of my ham with our dogs, but I could have easily saved part of it for a snack later. This recipe took about forty-five minutes to prepare and it had 723 calories. If they offer this recipe again, I will definitely order it again.

Christmas Style Beef Burrito with Red & Green Chile Sauces

In one word this dish is awesome! We gave it five out of five stars and were delighted by it's flavor. The sauces were perfectly seasoned and the lettuce, tomatoes and onions were very fresh. It was an easy dish to prepare and it was a very generous portion. It took about thirty-five minutes to prepare and it had 955 calories. Though I couldn't eat it all and saved a little less than half for lunch the next day, so that makes it less calories. Hubby ate it all and was stuffed. This is a nice alternative for tacos.

Mango Tango Smoothie with Pineapple, Orange, Yogurt & Honey

If you've ever had an Orange Julius you'll know what this tastes like, it's just the mango version. I was a bit nervous because I'm not a big fan of mango, but this was scrumptious. There was a lot of the orange flavor coming through. It's simple and easy, just blend 1 navel orange, 8 oz mangos, 5.3 oz greek yogurt, 2 tsp. honey and 6 oz pineapple juice. This recipe had 262 calories. We gave it four out of five stars.

Salmon Cakes with Spinach Salad & Asian Sesame Dressing

This was our favorite recipe for the week and we gave it five out of five stars. The salmon cakes were so heavenly and gourmet. It reminds me of something you would order from a fine restaurant and crave it constantly thereafter, but cringe at the price. We can't wait to make these salmon cakes again. If you are a fan of sushi, you'll love these. If you would like to taste sushi but can't stomach the idea of raw seafood, try this since it's the perfect substitute. Simply mix two salmon filets finely chopped, two minced garlic cloves, half tsp. salt, three chopped cilantro sprigs and 2 tbsp. Sriracha. Divide into four equally sized balls and form into 3/4" thick cakes. Place in the freezer for ten minutes to firm up. Cook the cakes in a pan on medium heat with 2 tsp. olive oil for two minutes per side. The Sriracha Mayo is also scrumptious! Combine 2 oz of mayo, 3 chopped cilantro sprigs, 1 tsp Sriracha, salt and pepper. Just thinking about this recipe is making me hungry! I can't wait to eat this again! The salad was also good and the dressing was very tasty. This recipe took about thirty minutes to prepare and it had 625 calories.

Chicken Marsala with Buttery Garlic Mushroom Sauce

We gave this recipe three out of five stars. This was our least favorite recipe out the five recipes. While it was tasty and we ate it all, it just wasn't anything special. This is the first time I have tried Chicken Marsala. Hubby has had it in restaurants many times and says the sauce in this recipe was lacking. It may have been better if there was less pasta or more sauce. The mushrooms were really delicious and the highlight of the meal. The sauce took longer than indicated on the recipe. It took about thirty-five minutes to prepare and it had 919 calories. It was a very generous portion and I shared some of the pasta with our dogs.

What a delightful week of recipes this was. I love how they had several Christmas recipes to chose from. They even had dessert for a change. For New Year's they added appetizers which I'm so anxious to try on New Year's Eve. Today we received the following recipes:
  1. New Year's Eve Appetizers - Jalapeño Poppers with Bacon, Roasted Red Pepper and Cream Cheese & Mini Pork Meatball Tacos
  2. Brazilian Shrimp Moqueca with Coconut Tomato Sauce, Zucchini, Grape Tomatoes & Mashed Rutabagas
  3. Italian Sausage Farfalle with Mascarpone Basil Parmesan Sauce
  4. Miso Honey Bone-in Pork Chops with Pepper Mushroom Stir Fry
I also wanted to order the Chia Gingerbread Smoothie, but at 624 calories I had to pass. Some of their smoothies are very low in calories and equally as delicious, so I like to stick to those. I'm going to be more conscious of the calories per dish and order more low calories recipes for the New Year.

Are you planning on watching your calories in the New Year too? Then join me in the Home Chef experience! Their low calorie dinners are just as tasty as their high calorie ones, they have generous portions and they don't taste like typical diet food. I dare you to take my $30 coupon and join today. Bath & Body Works London Haul

London 3-Wick Candles and Hand Sanitizers

I stalked the Bath & Body Works website until the London 3-Wick Candles arrived again! The hand soaps and hand sanitizers were available days prior, but I was on the hunt for the candles. I missed the last release in the early summer, so I wanted to be sure to snag them when they released for the 3rd time this winter. If you love the scent of a high quality tea with a little bit of lemon juice squeezed into the tea cup, this is the scent for you. It's a comforting scent yet refreshing, which is a difficult combination to produce without the lemon smelling fake and the tea scent smelling cheap. This candle is perfection! Just a warning, they are having issues with their website. The last few weeks they will claim an item is in stock, allow you to order it and then when it's time to ship they will send you an email that states your entire order or part of your order has been cancelled due to it not actually being in stock. I have been ordering from them for years online and this is the first time they have cancelled "in stock" items when it's time for delivery. I have experienced this not once but three times in that last couple of weeks. For example, I also ordered a Fresh Balsam candle not only in this order but two previous orders and they were all cancelled and not shipped. Also, my Holiday candle order was cancelled. I'm very careful to only purchase their candles during sales, shop with a coupon and use Mr. Rebates. So when they cancel one or more items, that changes the price I have paid per candle and that makes me very upset. Not to mention, I really wanted to stock up on those scents to enjoy in 2016. My favorite candles are from their winter and fall lines, so this is the time of year when I make the most orders so that I can enjoy them year round. This year that was a fail due to their "in stock" claim that was false. I called customer service and while they are normally quite helpful, this year they were not. I have heard others have also had customer service issues lately. So I will be contacting customer relations instead of customer service when I have time. It's sad that they can't keep up with their customers' needs, since most customers are quite bored by their spring and summer lines and are mostly enthusiastic about their fall and winter lines which cause us to stock up so we can enjoy them year round. You would think after all the blogger posts and YouTube videos stating this issue that they would bring back these scents at other times of the year so we didn't have to hoard them and so that their spring and summer sales numbers wouldn't be so low in comparison. I'm amazed at some companies who ignore their customers' purchase trends. It's really quite shocking, imagine how much money they are missing out on not providing some of their most popular candles year round! Some customers can't afford nor have the space to hoard these fall and winter candles! Bath & Body Works it's time for you to listen to your customers and make changes!

Home Chef - 27th Delivery & $30 Off

Pan Seared Pork Chop with Honey Fennel Butter & Au Gratin Turnips and Swiss Chard

Ingredients (click on photos to enlarge)

Skinny Chicken Mozzarella with Basil Marinara Sauce & Garlicky Greens

Ingredients

Strawberry Shortcake French Toast with Bacon, Strawberry, Honey & Roasted Peanut Topping

Ingredients

Chicken Grand-Mere with Arugula Salad

Ingredients

This is a review of a weekly subscription box called Home ChefEach week they offer twelve recipes and a fruit basket to chose from. One is a smoothie, one is breakfast and usually three of them are vegetarian. Some are low calorie, low carb and some are gluten free. Each dinner entree is $9.95, smoothies are $4.95 and the fruit is $4.95. Occasionally, there is an special recipe that is higher in price due to the ingredients. They added dessert for Christmas and for New Years they have added appetizers! This week out of the four recipes we gave three of them four out of five stars and one two.

Pan Seared Pork Chop with Honey Fennel Butter & Au Gratin Turnips and Swiss Chard

This meal reminds me of something you could order at a southern gourmet restaurant. We would have given it five out of five stars instead of four, if the swiss chard had a bit more garlic or something to liven it up. The rest of the meal was perfection. The Honey Fennel Butter is absolutely awesome! Simply mix together 2 tbsp. butter, 1 tsp. honey, 2 fresh oregano sprigs, 1/4 tsp. ground fennel and a pinch of salt and pepper. It is so delicious on top of the pork chop! It takes a boring pork chop and turns it into such a gourmet, flavorful, scrumptious pork chop. The Au Gratin Turnips were easy to make and so delicious. Turnips are one of my favorite vegetables, so I'm always anxious to try new recipes that include them. This recipe took about forty minutes to prepare and the turnips needed about seven more minutes cooking time. Make sure your turnips are tender, otherwise they won't taste as good. This is a low calorie recipe with 624 calories. It was a generous portion.

Skinny Chicken Mozzarella with Basil Marinara Sauce & Garlicky Greens

I now prefer this over Chicken Parmigiana. Wow, who needs that's awful fried coating when you can have this healthy, low calorie version that tastes so much better! This is seriously crave worthy. Simply combine 1 tbsp butter, 1 oz grated parmesan cheese and salt and pepper and coat both sides of the chicken breasts. After baking, they are moved into a pan and coated with 1/2 cup marinara sauce, 1/4 cup water and 2 oz. shredded mozzarella cheese. I wish I knew which brand of sauce they sent us because it tastes like something your Italian grandmother spent all day making. It was the best I've ever had. We gave this recipe four out five stars, but would have given it five if the kale and spinach part of the recipe had some more garlic or some spices. I can't wait to eat this again! It took a bit longer than the thirty-five minutes the recipe indicated it would take. This is a low calorie recipe with 564 calories. It was a generous portion.

Strawberry Shortcake French Toast with Bacon, Strawberry, Honey & Roasted Peanut Topping

This french toast recipe is unusual since it's made using english muffins. I thought it seemed like a good idea, but we didn't really care for it and gave it only two out of five stars. Everything else was good though and the topping is definitely worth repeating. It's a healthier version using 5.3 oz of greek yogurt and mixing in a 1/2 oz of honey. This is a great healthy alternative to whipped cream. The strawberry topping is made by mixing 2 oz of frozen whole strawberries and 3 oz of strawberry preserves which is healthier than strawberry syrup and just as delicious. This recipe took about thirty-five minutes and it had 709 calories. We will definitely use the toppings part of the recipe again soon.

Chicken Grand-Mere with Arugula Salad

We gave this easy recipe four out of five stars and it would make for the perfect weekend meal. It took a lot longer than the thirty minutes it stated, but it was worth the time since it was so delicious, healthy and low in calories. It came in at 620 calories and there were a lot of vegetable leftovers, so that would reduce the amount of calories since we weren't able to eat it all. Anytime a recipe includes rutabaga I have to try it! I absolutely love that vegetable and if you haven't tried it before, you must! If it's cooked properly, it's absolutely delicious.  It has too be cooked until it's very tender. This recipe added mushroom, shallots, butter, carrots and chicken base to the rutabaga. I was surprised the mushrooms were a lovely compliment to the rutabaga. I usually just mash the rutabaga and add butter. It was very tasty and definitely worth repeating soon. The arugula salad was especially good and I recommend the dressing. The dressing is very simple, just combine 1/2 tsp red wine vinegar, 1 tsp. olive oil and a pinch of salt and pepper. It sounds like it's too simple to be yummy, but it is. It also doesn't seem like enough quantity, but if you toss the salad really well, it's the perfect amount. The chicken breasts were delicious and were only seasoned with olive oil, thyme leaves, salt and pepper. Yet another lovely recipe from Home Chef!

What a wonderful week of recipes, so tasty and healthy! We are expecting our 28th box to arrive today and it will include the following:
  1. Classic Christmas Ham
  2. Christmas Style Beef Burrito
  3. Salmon Cakes
  4. Chicken Marsala
  5. Mango Tango Smoothies

Publix Mr. & Mrs. Santa Claus Salt & Pepper Shakers

Season's Greeters Salt & Pepper Shaker Set from Publix

If you have a Publix grocery store near you or where you are visiting for Christmas, it's time to pick up these adorable Mr. & Mrs. Claus Salt & Pepper shakers before they sell out. I love their retro design. They make the perfect little decorations or you could use them as salt & pepper shakers during your Christmas dinner. They even come with an extra plastic plug in case you lose one. The back of the box says "take home your very own handcrafted ceramic Season's Greeters for your Christmas table. These collectibles are available for a limited time only". This set costs only $5.99. So are you tempted to purchase these little cuties and do you have a Publix in your area?

Hubby picked these up for me yesterday while on a business trip. We are anxiously awaiting the opening of the Publix here in Winston Salem in the spring, so until then Hubby picks us up some goodies while out of town. I fell in love with the store in Cary only to move away a couple months later. It's the closest grocery store I have come across that is like Giant Foods in the DC area. They have an incredible selection of food including international food, a great meat department, an amazing bakery and deli and their store brand is of high quality. They also have a wonderful online service for advance ordering of subs, deli cheese and meat. All you do is place your order online and it's waiting for you at the time you request at the online pickup area of the deli. It's a wonderful time saver since you don't have to stand in line and wait for them to prepare it. Their subs are the best, I highly recommend them.

Holiday Cheer Tea, Lady Cora's Evening Tea, Legacy Tea, Mrs. Patmore's Blueberry Scone Tea, Mrs. Patmore's Pudding Tea

Whether you are a Downton Abbey fan or a fan of the tea from The Republic of Tea, these are limited edition teas that you must get your hands on before they are gone forever. There are thirteen teas in the Downton Abbey collection. I finally got my hands on all of them after shopping World Market, Shop PBS and The Republic of Tea. I have tried all of them and they are all delicious. I wouldn't expect anything less than perfection from Downton Abbey, so I'm not surprised they are all delicious. There are a couple teas that are only available at World Market and Shop PBS. It's hard to chose a favorite, but in the morning I reach for the Estate Blend and Grantham Breakfast Blend the most. Later in the afternoon my favorites are Mrs. Patmore's Blueberry Scone Tea, English Rose Tea, Crawley Sisters Tea and Christmas Tea. In the evening, the caffeine free teas to chose from are Lady Cora's Evening Tea, Afternoon Garden Tea, Crawley Sisters Tea, English Rose Tea, Holiday Cheer and Mrs. Patmore's Blueberry Scone Tea. Retail value on each tin of thirty-six tea bags is $12, but you can sometimes find them on sale and use coupons. The Legacy Tea is one dollar more.

The thirteen limited edition Downton Abbey teas in alphabetical order are:

Afternoon Garden Tea - ginger, orange, bergamot, mint, lemon, thyme, anise, hyssop, anise seeds and blackberry leaves. Herbal blend is caffeine-free. Smells mostly like mint. Perfect to sooth your stomach due to the mint. No sweeter needed.

Bates Brambleberry Tea - black tea, natural berry flavors, blackberry, raspberry, strawberry and blueberry bits. Smells like blackberries and blueberries. Can be served chilled over ice. Shop PBS exclusive

Butler's Pantry Blend - black tea, sweet blackberry leaves, natural honey and vanilla flavors. Smells mostly like black tea with vanilla. Add honey for more sweetness. Can only be purchased at World Market.

Christmas Tea - black tea, cinnamon, natural flavors, cloves, licorice root and apple bits. Smells mostly like apples and I can't taste the licorice.

Crawley Sisters Tea - rooibos, carob, cocoa kernels, natural chocolate and strawberry flavor, sweet blackberry leaves and bourbon vanilla beans. Perfect for PMS or when you are having a chocolate cravings. Recommend using less water and adding some stevia. Tastes watered down if you use too much water. Smells like strawberry chocolate! Caffeine and calorie free!

English Rose Tea - Nigerian hibiscus, rosehip peels, apples, stevia, natural raspberry, natural rose and vanilla flavors and rose petals. Recommend not adding sugar since it already has stevia in it. Great when you are having a sugar craving. Herbal blend that is caffeine free and calorie free! It's the sweetest of all thirteen teas. Rich dark pink color. Smells mostly like raspberries. Can also be served chilled with ice.

Estate Blend - black tea, natural bergamot oil and natural vanilla flavor. Perfect for breakfast with a splash of milk and stevia. Heavenly scent of bergamot and vanilla. World Market exclusive

Mrs. Patmore's Blueberry Scone Tea - red rooibos, licorice, natural blueberry flavor, natural vanilla flavor and natural caramel flavor. So sweet and delicious, smells & tastes mostly like vanilla and blueberries. Caffeine free. World Market exclusive

Mrs. Patmore's Pudding Tea - black tea, sweet blackberry leaves, carob bits, natural caramel and vanilla flavor. May add a splash of milk. Smells mostly like caramel and vanilla. Dupe for Caramel Vanilla Tea.

They can only be purchased in their store and on their website, but are often out of stock. The PBS Shop exclusive is Bates' Brambleberry Tea, but it can be purchased on The Republic of Tea's website. I recommend requesting a catalog from The Republic of Tea on their website. They send out a sample in their catalog and sometimes a coupon. Have you had the chance to bring home one of these wonderful teas? If so, what's your favorite? These would make a lovely gift for that Downton Abbey fan in your life. Christmas Marble Manicure - December 2015

OPI's Goldeneye, Julep's Priscilla & Julep's Iman

For the last couple of years, I like to repeat this Christmas marble design using different gold, red and green nail polishes during the month of December since it's my favorite. It's done with a dotting tool and it's easy to do after a little practice. I simply applied two coats of the gold color called Goldeneye from OPI. Working quickly, I then applied three dots of the green color from Julep called Priscilla. I applied one dot at the top left, one dot in the middle on the right and one dot at the bottom near the tip of the nail on the left. Then I applied the red color from Julep called Iman. First a dot at the top right near the cuticle, then one dot in the middle on the left and then one dot at the bottom on the right. Then moving very quickly, I took my dotting tool and swirled those dots together. Starting at the top left green dot and working my way all the way down through the dots to the bottom. Then depending on how that turned out, I use the dotting tool again swirling through any areas that didn't get mixed or any spots where there was too much gold showing.

I have done this manicure with other colors which you can see on my Pinterest Nail Art Board or the following blog posts:
  1. Julep's Carol & Wendy Dry Marble Nail Art - May 2015
  2. Spring Dry Marble Nail Art - March 2015

  7. Manicure Featuring Makeup Cherimoya Nail Polish - December 2012
  8. Marble Design Featuring the Cinderella Collection - November 2012
  9. Fire Marble Design Manicure - October 2012
My step by step directions are located here:

Some recommendations on dry marble nail art:
  1. Beginners should use all glitter nail polish since errors up show less.
  2. Wait about ten minutes before you apply your top coat so that the nail polishes can stop blending together first.
  3. Use nail polishes that are opaque, so that you don't see the nail underneath.
  4. Practice with different nail polish combinations on a nail wheel first until you find a combination that you like the most.
  5. Practice, practice and practice some more until you get the feel for the amount of polish to dot on your nail and the swirling action needed.
  6. If a nail polish is too thin and is dropping too much polish, chose another.
  7. If a nail polish is too thick and won't fall off the brush fast enough, chose another.
  8. Use the lightest color as the base and the darker colors for the dots.
  9. Move the dotting tool around swirling with a light action as to not drag the dotting tool against the nail.
  10. Any spots that are missing polish after swirling, take your dotting tool and apply a little bit of the base color polish to those spots.
  11. Have fun and don't be too critical of your design.
  12. Enjoy the compliments that will be coming your way!
  13. Work quickly before the polish starts to dry and do one nail at a time.
  14. Use the yellow dotting tool's finest point, shown here. (not recommending seller, just showing you which tool)
I hope if you give this nail art a try that you will post a comment below telling me about your experience and a link to your nail art photo. If you have any questions, feel free to comment below and I'll assist you the best I can. What's your favorite nail art technique?
