BarkBox - September 2013

This is a monthly subscription for dogs from BarkBox.  It comes in three different sizes and prices range from $19-29 depending on how many months you sign up for.  Get your first box for $5 off by using my link hereIncluded in the September box for dogs under twenty pounds were the following products:
  1. Plato -Natural Duck Strips
  2. VetraCare Pet - liquid bandage
  3. Wagatha's - Organic Pizza Dog Biscuits
  4. Aussie Naturals - Floppies Crocodile
We have received an Aussie toy before in a previous box and they make quality toys.  I was impressed with the last one.  I understand that some dogs remove the stuffing from their toys, but our dogs are trained not to, so we don't need toys without stuffing.  Actually, they don't care for this toy very much due to the missing stuffing.  I think perhaps it's better suited for larger dogs who can be more destructive. Remember to always supervise your dog when he's playing with a toy. Dogs should never be left alone with a toy because they can become a choking hazard. They like the duck strips.  They aren't crazy about the pizza biscuits, but they will eat them after the ones they prefer are all gone. BarkBox is our dogs' (2 Maltese & 2 Shih Tzu) favorite subscription and they highly recommend it! I have several healthy dog cookie recipes on this site, be sure to check them out before you leave.

Check out what they received in their previous BarkBoxes:

Birchbox Fall Haul

I received everything above for only $4.80, which retails for $55!  How do you ask?  Well I'm a Birchbox subscriber for $10 a month.  Each month if you review the five products, you receive fifty points which is worth $5.  Also, each time you refer a customer you receive fifty points.  Every one hundred points is worth $10 in their store.  So I waited until I had $40 worth of points and a coupon for 20% off!  The two samples shown in the lower right were free.  Included in this haul were the following products:
  1. L'Occitane - 20% Shea Butter Hand Cream, 5.2 oz, $28 retail value
  2. The Balm - Put a Lid On It eyeshadow primer, $18 value
  3. Twistband - Hair Tie Bentley Set, $10 value
  4. Mox & Supergoop! samples, free
I absolutely love the L'Occitane Shea Butter Hand Cream.  It is a must have when you take macro photos of your nails!  I do not like the price at all and really cringed when I purchased it the first time, but really there is no better hand cream.  I only use it at night so it lasts longer.  During the day, since I wash my hands so often, I use a less expensive brand of hand cream.  I also bought their tube key press which helps you use every last bit.  You definitely need to invest in that if you plan on purchasing it more than once. So I was very happy to get this L'Occitane bargain from Birchbox.  I also recommend the Twistband hair ties.  I need one to keep my hair out of my face five to six days a week during exercise, so I need lots of them.  They also have a subscription service, check out my review here.  I just started using The Balm eyeshadow primer, so the jury is out on that one.  My favorite is from Urban Decay, but I thought I'd give this brand a try. While I may not like every sample I receive in my monthly Birchboxes, the points make it worth remaining a subscriber for sure!  What's your favorite monthly subscription service?

Enchanted Polish - A Little Fishy Told Me Manicure

Photo taken in sunlight

The photo above shows my nails painted with an Indie polish from Enchanted Polish in the holographic shade called A Little Fishy Told Me.  I was able to preorder it directly from Enchanted Polish on their website.  This was my first Enchanted Polish purchase since they usually sell out within minutes.  I have since bought two more which I will show you soon on this blog.  This polish was created in memory of the You Tube beauty guru teenager who lost her battle with cancer this year named Talia Castellano.  When she visited the Ellen show she was asked by Ellen how she stayed so positive. She answered "When people ask me that, what do you want me to do, be depressed?  I mean a little fishy told me 'just keep swimming, just keep swimming'".  Which was referring to Ellen's character Dory in the movie Finding Nemo.  So the owner of Enchanted Polish came up with the name "A Little Fishy Told Me" for the polish she made in her memory.  Part of the profits went to charity.  I also used this polish in my Owl Nail Art Manicure.  I used four coats for this manicure since I went a bit too light on the first coat.  It doesn't appear very holographic unless it's in the sun.  It's a very pretty grayish blue out of the sun which reminds me of a paint color used on cars in the 70's.  What's your favorite Enchanted Polish color?

I have featured over fifty manicures on this blog.  Take a quick glance at them all on my Pinterest Manicure Board.  Then simply click on the ones you want to read about on my blog, since they are linked to the matching blog post.

Birchbox - October 2013

Beauty Buzz

This is a monthly cosmetic subscription service from Birchbox for $10 per month.  There are several different boxes, so not everyone receives the sample products.  Included in my October box were the following products:
  1. ChapStick - Hydration Lock Eight Hour Moisture
  2. The Balm - Stainiac in Beauty Queen
  3. DDF - Wrinkle Resist Plus Pore Minimizer Moisturizing Serum
  4. Shea Terra Organics - Rose Hips Black Soap Deep Pore Facial Cleanser
  5. Alison Raffaele - Reality Base Foundation
I don't need another ChapStick nor any more lip balm, so that will be up for sale on my Blog Sale.  The DDF Serum made my skin look oily after about an hour.  I will be giving that to a friend who has dry skin.  I looked at the reviews and others with combination skin agreed. I prefer using a non moisturizing primer or one that controls oil and creates a matte finish.  I recommend Laura Geller's Spackle.  The black soap is a dark black color which is strange and it smells bad.  I was hoping for a rose scent, it smelled like burnt coffee to me.  I was really surprised it smelled bad since their white chocolate body lotion smells delicious.  It cleaned ok, but not as well as my current cleansers from Bare Escentuals and Philosophy.  The foundation is two shades too dark for me, so I will be selling or passing it on to a friend with darker skin.  It's disappointing to receive a foundation in the wrong color since we do fill out profiles indicating what skin tone we are.  I'm not happy with this month's box.  Last month was much better suited for my needs.

Check out what I received in previous Birchboxes:

  2. WEN - Pomegranate Finishing Treatment Creme, 4 oz,  $27 value
  3. Peter Thomas Roth - Oilless Oil, .34 fl oz, $11.75 value
  4. Alterna - Bamboo Dry Oil Mist, .85 fl oz, $5 value

I look forward to trying most of these products.  I already have the WEN Treatment Creme, so I will be selling that on my Blog Sale.  All you need is a pea sized amount of the creme, so the tube lasts a really long time!  I will also be selling the Alterna Oil Mist since my hair isn't frizzy.  In addition, I will be selling the Mally eyeshadow stick.  This is my favorite cosmetic subscription box and I look forward to each shipment.  The next shipments in the auto delivery program are in January, April, August and October in 2014.

    Picture Polish - Frosting Manicure

    Photo taken in direct sunlight

This is an Indie polish called Frosting made in Australia by Picture Polish. I bought it a Llarowe Haul recently. It was created in collaboration with a blogger named Cosmetic Cupcake.  You can read more about it on her blog.  It appeared that it was going to take four coats to be opaque, so I used one coat of Sephora by OPI's XOX Betsey first.  Then I used three coats of Frosting.  This polish is glitter heavy, I had to brush off some of the hearts because I was getting so many on the brush.  At times it was going on thick and drying a bit fast causing it to be a bit gloppy.  I found it difficult to get an even coat on the last one.  I was also unable to move the glitter around like I have done with other glitter polishes.  Wherever the glitter lands, it's going to stay.  This one is a bit bumpy with one top coat.  After a second top coat, it's feels less bumpy.  This polish only lasted six days before peeling and chipping. In addition, it is hard to remove and I recommend using the smallest end of your dotting tool to nudge off the hearts during the removal process.  So there you have it, one of my recent manicures.  Do you like it?  What's your favorite polish brand?

I have featured over fifty manicures on this blog.  Take a quick glance at them all on my Pinterest Manicure Board.  Then simply click on the ones you want to read about on my blog, since they are linked to the matching blog post.

    50% Off Keurig Brewers

    Green Mountain Coffee K-Cups

As a BzzAgent I received the above K-Cups to sample for free.  They also included coupons for 50% off a Keurig Brewer!  Since I already have one, I have plenty to share.  All I ask is that you leave a comment below stating which number coupon you used so that others don't waste their time.  Here's the coupons:
    1. FF-1SW1QK4
    2. FF-Q30PY43
    3. FF-M8L9Y5J
    4. FF-JHQCNLD
    5. FF-FKY2L8B
    6. FF-8520SY2
    7. FF-2R6SPP6
    8. FF-2G5DYYS
If you also want two free boxes of K-Cups, first email me your name & address and I'll send you a referral link for that prior to your purchase.  I saved eight codes for those that email me.  The coupons state that they are for one Keurig K-Cup or Vue home brewing system by October 31st and the offer includes free shipping for US addresses.  Enter coupon in the "Promotions & Coupons" box during checkout at Keurig.com only.  Does not include the Mr. Coffee or Cuisinart brands.

Hubby tried the Green Mountain Three Continent Blend K-Cups and said they were ok, but too weak for him.  It states it's extra bold, but he found it wasn't.  His favorite coffee K-Cup is from Costco, their own brand called Kirklands in the Pacific Bold flavor.  That one is a dark roast compared to the one above which is a medium roast. Hubby also recommends the Starbucks K-Cups which are more expensive but have the same strong flavor that he likes.

    Goodies Co Taster's Box - September 2013

    Taster's Box

This is a monthly snack subscription box from Goodies Co for only $7 a month including shipping.  Included in the September box were the following snacks:
    1. Nestle - Pure Life Splash water in Acai Grape flavor
    2. Numi - savory tea in broccoli cilantro
    3. MJM Distributors - honey made with Thyme flowers from Greece
    4. Kashi - Sundried Tomato, Basil & Feta Hummus Crisps
    5. Bare Fruit - Fuji Apple Chips
    6. Mario - Pitted Snack Olive with Sevillian Spices
    7. Zone Perfect - Greek Yogurt Chocolate flavor
My favorite snack in this box is the olives!  I really like the idea of them being packed without liquid, it makes it so easy since no draining is required.  Great snack to take on the go.  I'm not someone who buys flavored water instead I add a splash of fruit juice to my seltzer instead.  Not a fan of Kashi since they pretend to be a small company when in reality they owned by Kellogg's.  They lie about selling healthy products also.  Just look at the ingredients and educate yourself about ingredients companies pass of as healthy that are in fact not healthy at all.  I didn't like the taste of their chips and I refuse to buy anything by that brand.  I received the apple chips in a different subscription box and didn't even finish them, they are yucky.  I'd prefer to eat a fresh apple.  First ingredient in the Zone Perfect bar is corn syrup, moving on sugar is listed, do I need to say more?  Bad!  So sick of these companies trying to pass of their bars as healthy.   If you want to try a healthy bar, try the Kind brand. It's delicious and a healthy snack.  If I'm going to treat myself to something with sugar in it, it will be in the form of a delicious chocolate bar, not a bar pretending to be healthy that tastes bad! The Numi tea is a good brand and this one requires that it steeps covered for ten minutes.  It smells really good and is so yummy!  Says you can use it as a snack, I don't know about that!  That sounds crazy to me.  I believe in drinking lots of water to reduce your appetite, but not as a substitute for food!  This one may land up in my shopping cart sometime soon!  I use honey in my tea and smoothies occasionally, but prefer honey that is made within twenty miles of my house, since that helps with allergies.  I think I need to consider dropping this subscription.  Too many unhealthy snacks. My favorite snack subscription is from Graze.  That's the one I recommend.  If you don't mind a mix of healthy and unhealthy snacks, go ahead and give Goodies a try.   It's owned by Walmart, so one doesn't really expect it to be healthy. What's your favorite snack subscription box?

I have reviewed many different subscription boxes on this blog.  To see them all check out my Subscription Box Pinterest Board.  Any that you would like more information on, just click on the photo and it will take you to the matching blog post.

Bath & Body Works Fall Haul - September 2013

    Fall Haul 2013

    3-Wick Ceramic Owl

It's that time of year again, time to snag up all the goodies at Bath & Body Works!  I prefer to shop there during the fall & winter, since I like their products the most during that time.  The photos above represent two online orders, one replacement order and one trip to their store.  I used coupon "NewLuv" for free shipping and 20% off, bought mostly sale items and used Mr. Rebates for an additional 3% back.  First online order included:
    1. 3-Wick Ceramic Owl - cover for a 3-wick candle, missing from box (photo directly above)
    2. Mini Ceramic Owl - holds a 4 oz candle inside, broken during shipping (bottom right in photo)
    3. Half Soap Sleeve Ceramic Owl - to place your soap dispenser in (top middle)
    4. Wallflower Heater Sculpted Owl - holds a wallflower refill (bottom right)
    5. Blueberry Pumpkin Patch - 3-wick candle
    6. Pumpkin Pecan Waffles - 3-wick candle
    7. Leaves - 3-wick candle (broken during shipping)
    8. Pumpkin Carmel Latte - 3-wick candle
    9. Pumpkin Cupcake - 3-wick candle
    10. Mahogany Teakwood - 3-wick candle
When I opened the box, I was extremely disappointed that they forgot to put the 3-Wick Ceramic Owl inside! Also, the Mini Ceramic Owl and the Leaves 3-Wick candle were broken into pieces.  I had gone to the store to purchase the 3-Wick Ceramic Owl and they were out of stock, so I bought it online and shortly thereafter it sold out.  So they could not ship me another one and it was a birthday present to myself.  I asked the customer service rep to help me locate one in a store and she said she could not.  I called about eight stores before I found one an hour away.  So I placed that one on hold and bought it on my birthday.  I don't think I should have had to go to that much trouble and that customer service should have done the work for me since it was their mistake!  I must say I have never received a broken or missing item from them before.  The box was packed very poorly, with the items laying on their side instead of on their bottom.  The candles were laying on top of the Mini Ceramic Owl and there was no way it wasn't going to break.  They replaced two of the three items, refunded the large owl and gave me free shipping & $10 off my next order online.  Note shipping is slow right now.  It doesn't even leave for four days, last year's orders left in two days.  During my trip to the store I bought the following with a $10 off coupon:
    1. 3-Wick Ceramic Owl (on hold, last one)
    2. Metal Owl 3-Wick Holder (not available online, top left)
    3. Harvest Gathering - 4 oz candle (free)
Then I placed another online order since the coupon was still working and I had the $10 off gift card.  I ordered the following:
    1. Wallflower Refills - Salty Caramel (top left)
    2. Scentportable - Owl on Branch (top middle)
    3. Wallflower Lux Starter - Autumn Owl (top right)
    4. Wallflower Lux Starter - Pumpkin (top right)
    5. Wallflower Refills - Apple Crumble (bottom right)
I also went to the store and exchanged one of my owl wallflowers from last year that quit working.  The candles weren't on sale anymore for 2 for $22, so I didn't buy anything else.  I wish they had the Apple Crumble & Salty Caramel 3-Wick candles this year.  Maybe they will get them later?  You can tell by the picture which of the candles are my favorites by the level of candle left.  Everyone is raving about the Pumpkin Pecan Waffles, but I find it too sweet.  The Pumpkin Blueberry smells just like blueberry muffins and is so yummy.  Leaves is a yearly must have.  Pumpkin Caramel Latte is pretty good, I prefer the caramel ones they had last year.  I'm not into the perfume scented candles usually, but Mahogany Teakwood is one of my top favorites.   It smells like an expensive men's cologne. I'm anxious to see what they have for winter and I will be stocking up on the winter candles as soon as they are available and on sale.  I wish they had more ceramic luminaries and figurals as they have in the past.  They really shouldn't sell out before fall officially starts and one shouldn't have to go on the hunt for them!  Check out my previous hauls:

Graze - Invitation Codes for Free Boxes

    Weekly Graze Box of Snacks

Yippee, they finally are giving out invitation codes again!  For those of you who have been anxiously awaiting a code so you can join, you are in luck! I was given a code good for four friends to use.  I already gave one away, so there are three left.  My codes are "WENDYW3RP", "WENDYW3RS", "WENDYW3RR" or use the link here.  The code will make your first box free and your fifth box free!  Kindly, comment below if you use the code so others will know if there are any codes left.

A little information for those of you who aren't familiar with this subscription box, it's from a company called Graze.  They send out four different snacks in a box each week from the UK to the US for only $5 including shipping.  You can get them as often as once a week or push deliveries back as many weeks as you would like. It is totally customizable on their website! On their website you chose "trash", "try", "like" or "love" for each snack. If you try a snack and love it and want it sent regularly, you chose "love".  If you like a snack but not in love with it and want it sent occasionally, then chose "like". If you want a snack sent less frequently, then chose "try".   Finally, if you try one and you don't like it, chose "trash" and they wont send it to you again.  You can also do this in advance of shipments being sent.  My favorite snacks are the various flavors of the Flapjack bars, great first thing in the morning.  They are very moist and so delicious! Also, any of the ones that have cheese cashews, yummy! Plus Olive & Rosemary Bruschetta, Chili & Lime Pistachios, Pomodoro Rustichella, Tomato & Basil Pizza, The Cheese Board, Salt & Vinegar Nuts, Natural Vanilla Seeds, Brooklyn Bites and The British Barbecue are at the top of my favorites list.

Included in the box shown above:
    1. Tropical Daiquiri - green mango, lime raisins & pineapple (104 calories)
    2. Pear Tatin - pear, raspberry cranberries, yoghurt coated seeds & almonds (140 calories)
    3. Toffee Apple - toffee sauce with granny smith apple (66 calories)
    4. Pomodoro Rustichella - cheese croutons, tomato baguettes and tomato & herb almonds (115 calories)
I highly recommend this snack subscription box!  I've been a customer since March and it is my favorite!  Happy Snacking!  Check out some of the previous boxes I received from Graze:
