Well, I finally got around to seeing this movie. It was released December 21st, 2018. I put it off when I read reviews that weren't flattering. Since I'm a fan of Jennifer Lopez and Leah Remini and I know they're friends in real life, I just had to see it. While there a few laughs sprinkled throughout the movie, I wouldn't consider it a great comedy. It's more of a Lifetime movie with a Hallmark ending. Definitely not worth seeing in the movie theatre, but worth watching on DVD if you have low expectations and you are fans of those two actresses. What ruined it for me was that it was sold as a second chance at success and winning and I expected fun scenes with that plot. Shortly after she does achieve success in a funny and entertaining way they ruin it with a sappy adoption storyline with an unrealistic Hallmark ending. Check out the trailer:
They also managed to put in a part with dying birds which some audience members actually laughed at, wow. I am so sick of animals being used this way in movies. The surprising twist is the adoption story and discovering who her child is. I knew from that point it would be a letdown. I can't say much more without giving the entire storyline away. My favorite parts were the scenes with Jennifer & Leah, the job interview, quitting her job and the restaurant scene in which she attempts to speak Mandarin. Another part that bugs me is the ending which contradicts the beginning. In the beginning, she was stuck in a job she didn't like because she didn't have a degree and after getting the perfect job by lying she then loses it when the truth is revealed. It ends with a statement saying that each day you wake you can change your life and make it what you want it to be. Sure you can make your best attempt, but if you don't have the qualifications that they require it's not yours to be had. Even when she proves she can do the job without a degree she no longer has that job. Now if they had forgiven her lies and allowed her to continue working then maybe I would have bought the sappy line at the end of the movie. Jennifer has made much funnier and more entertaining movies previously, go watch one of those instead. Monster in Law is one of my favorites, it kept me laughing throughout the movie.
What movies are on your list to see soon? The next one on my list is The Upside, the trailer made me laugh several times. I'm a fan of Kevin Hart, Nicole Kidman, and Bryan Cranston. The funniest movie I have seen lately with Bryan Cranston is Why Him?. Check that one out if you haven't already.

I saw this in theater and have to agree with your synopsis. It was okay to watch once but not worth paying the theater price. I don't remember the dying birds scene. Guess I glossed over that part. I saw previews for The Upside and it looks good.
Movies are only $5 on Tuesdays at one of our local theaters. It was the scene when she revealed her new organic product outside and released the doves. I reviewed The Upside, check it out.
