Macy's Beauty Box Review - November 2018

Glam Goals

This is a review of the November Macy's Beauty Box which costs $15 per month including shipping. This month's box has a retail value of $52.24 not including the Smashbox Primer Stick, the makeup bag nor the $5 coupon. The primer doesn't indicate it's size so I don't know it's worth. My guess is around $6-$8, so that brings the total up to around $58.24. Included in the November box were the following products:
  1. Smashbox - Photo Finish Mattifying Primer Stick
  2. Rituals - The Ritual of Ayurveda Balancing Body Creammade in Germany, 2.3 fl. oz., $10.25 retail value
  3. Dior - Miss Dior Eau de Parfum Spray, made in France, .03 fl. oz., $1.14 retail value
  4. Dior - Men's Savage Eau de Parfum Spray, made in France, .03 fl. oz., $1.01 retail value
  5. IT Cosmetics - Superhero 24 Hour Waterproof Easy Glide Liquid Gel Super Liner, made in Korea, .005 fl. oz, $6.66 retail value
  6. Shiseido - Modern Matte Powder Lipstick in Exotic Red 516, made in Japan, .08 fl. oz., $14.85 retail value
  7. Clinique - Dramatically Different Hydrating Jellymade in the USA, .5 fl. oz., $3.33 retail value
  8. Wacoal - b.fitting Lightweight Bikini in Sand, $15.00 retail value
  9. $5 Macy's Beauty Coupon
I've tried Miss Dior perfume before and I like it. It's a warm floral with notes of bergamot, Grasse rose and rosewood. While it's nice, it's not great enough for me to purchase the full size. I gave the Dior Savage perfume to my husband who liked it but not enough to reach for it again. Its notes are Reggio bergamot, Sichuan pepper, and ambroxan. I must say I was quite surprised to receive underwear in a cosmetics subscription box! It would have been a lovely bonus item if it wasn't one size fits all. I'm not a fan of clothing in the one size fits all size. This one says it fits small to extra large though they are so small they look like teenager's underwear! I had just finished my laundry when it arrived so I have to wait till the next laundry day to try them after I have a chance to wash them. While the reviews state that they are comfortable, I have my doubts all women of all sizes would agree. I received a sample of the Clinique Hydrating Jelly recently in my September Play Sephora Box. It's really thin so it sinks in really quickly, but it's not very moisturizing. It would be good for perhaps oily skin. It doesn't help my dry skin. I'm not a fan of a primer in stick form. That seems like a really odd choice for a primer. Perhaps on the go as a touch-up, but at home I prefer liquid. This Smashbox primer is supposed to be matte and control oil and shine for 12 hours. I think this would be better suited for someone with oily skin and since I have dry skin, I'll stick with Julep's primer or Laura Geller's. Liquid primer is so much easier to apply. I would be afraid that I didn't apply the stick primer evenly. I wish subscription boxes would stop sending red lipsticks since they only look good on a small percentage of women. It seems like that's the only color they have been sending lately. But since it's the expensive Shiseido brand I decided to give it a try. Plus it's a dark red, not a bright red which I know doesn't look good on me. It has a matte finish, but it's not dry. Sadly, it looks brighter on the lips than it appears in the tube. I really wish they had sent just about any color than red. It's just too bright next to my fair skin, while it looks good on some it's not a look I enjoy on myself. I'm happy to receive an IT Cosmetics product since I like that brand. I received a note that says "oops we had to substitute one of the samples in your box, sorry about that. But don't worry, we're pretty sure you'll love what we sent instead!" They were supposed to send an IT Cosmetics Mascara instead. This liner has a very fine point which is very similar to Kat Von D's which is my favorite. The Ritual Body Cream is very thin and I don't care for its strange scent. It smells like plastic to me while it's supposed to smell like rose and have soothing honey. It's priced at $33 for 7.3 ounces which is ridiculous. It does make my skin feel really soft and moisturized instantly while not feeling sticky or oily. The cosmetic bag is an odd shape, I prefer to lay long items down at the bottom and this square shape would require trying to balance them straight up. The front is a nice washable faux leather, but the back is a black fabric which would be hard to keep clean.

My favorite item in this month's box is the IT Cosmetics Liner and my least favorite is the Smashbox Stick Primer. This has to be one of my least favorite beauty boxes from Macy's. Hopefully, next month will be more rewarding.
