Garlic Bread

Tour of Italy - $16.45

Veal Parmigiana - $16.99

This is a review of an Italian restaurant located in Raleigh, North Carolina called Soprano's Grill. We visited on a Sunday around 2:30 pm and they had a large group at a table and another couple at a booth and several carry out orders. This is a good time to visit if you don't like crowds. They are open Monday to Thursday from 11 am until 9:30 pm. Friday and Saturday they close half an hour later and Sunday they open and an hour later. Their health score is currently 97 which is very good. We were immediately greeted and seated at a booth.

The waiter took our drink order right away and shortly after delivered them and we ordered our entrees. A few minutes later he brought out some freshly made garlic bread that was hot. I wish it had more garlic and spices, but it was tasty. Our entrees arrived fifteen minutes after the bread. I ordered the Tour of Italy because that way I didn't have to decide on just one entree. One can choose three from Lasagna, Eggplant Rollatini, Stuffed Shells, Chicken Parmigiana, Fettucini Alfredo and Cheese Ravioli. In the photo above left to right are Lasagna, Eggplant Rollatini and Chicken Parmigiana. The Lasagna is described as "baked steaming layers of pasta and house-made tomato sauce with a blend of ground beef, ricotta, romano, and mozzarella cheese". The Eggplant Rollatini is described as "lightly breaded and fried eggplant rolled up with capicola, ricotta, and mozzarella cheese and baked with our house-made marinara sauce". The Chicken Parmigiana is described as "lightly breaded chicken fried and then baked in our house-made marinara sauce with melted mozzarella served with a side of pasta". It doesn't come with a side of pasta in the Tour of Italy. My favorite was the Lasagna, but it wasn't a tall stack of layers like I'm used to. The pasta was tender and the mixture of sauce, ground beef and cheese were delicious. My second favorite was the Chicken Parmigiana. Though it was a very thin, dry piece of chicken and it had a thick layer of breading. I wasn't a fan of the Eggplant Rollatini since I'm not one who enjoys capicola. Hubby had a bite and he loved it since he loves capicola. Hubby enjoyed his cheat meal of Veal Parmigiana with spaghetti. The Veal Parmigiana is described as "lightly breaded veal, fried, and then baked in our house-made marinara sauce with melted mozzarella cheese served with a side of pasta". Some of the breading fell off and it was a thin piece of veal which was a bit dried out. Everything came steaming hot. The Lasagna is $13.99 by itself, the Eggplant Rollatini is $15.99 and the Chicken Parmigiana is $14.99.

I recommend the Lasagna and the spaghetti. I'd skip anything breaded. For entrees costing over $16 we thought they should have come with a house salad as it does in most Italian restaurants. Hubby's portion was very generous and he was very full. I would have liked a bit more Lasagna since it didn't have many layers. I didn't eat much of the Eggplant Rollatini, so I wasn't overly full.  We are unlikely to return since we didn't think it was a good value, it's a long drive and we prefer Italian food with much more garlic. If I lived nearby I would probably be a carryout customer who orders Pizza and Lasagna. What's your favorite Italian restaurant in the Triangle?
