This is a review of our 15th delivery from a weekly food subscription box called Blue Apron. We gave one recipe five out of five stars and two recipes three stars. Calories ranged from 530 to 700 calories and preparation time ranged from thirty-five to fifty-five minutes.

Chicken Khao Soi with Crispy Wonton Noodles

Hubby gave this recipe five out of five stars and I gave it four stars. It was scrumptious! The fresh noodles and crispy noodles were delicious along with lots of chicken, wonderful spice and kale. I felt there was too much onion though. Hubby said it was easy to make the crispy noodles which was a nice surprise. I tend to really enjoy the Asian recipes from Blue Apron and this one was no exception. This recipe had 700 calories and it took forty eight minutes to prepare. The recipe indicated it would take thirty-five to forty-five minutes to prepare. It was a generous portion of food.

Blackened Catfish with Veracruz Sauce

Hubby and I both love catfish, but we felt the this was of low quality though it was a large portion. Hubby gave this recipe three out of five stars and I gave it two stars since I only ate half of it due to dislike. The Veracruz sauce was tart and we didn't like the combination of potatoes and tomatoes. The raisins and olives were lost in the tartness of the sauce. The spice blend made with smoked paprika, oregano, coriander and cumin gave us heartburn. We appreciated that they gave us rice flour to coat the catfish which is healthier than regular flour. This recipe had 530 calories and it took forty-eight minutes to prepare. The recipe indicated it would take up to fifty-five minutes to prepare.

Pork Chops & Freekeh Salad with Brussels Sprouts & Clementine Chutney

We both gave this recipe three out of five stars. The chutney tasted like marmalade which wasn't a good combination with the pork. We didn't care for the freekeh salad and it made us gassy. The brussels sprouts were of a low quality which was quickly discovered when they began to stink as they were cooked. There wasn't enough apple cider vinegar to flavor the dish well. This dish had 600 calories and it took one hour to prepare. The recipe indicated that it would take up to fifty-five minutes to prepare.

  1. The crispy noodle dish was good. I think you're right most of the Asian dishes are pretty good. Except the shrimp dumpling disaster I had in November! On the other hand we really liked the pork chops with the chutney. Our chutney wasn't too sweet, not sure if it could be a difference in the orange provided, our Brussel sprouts were good too. I guess it depends on who they get their local produce from. This week we changed to the family dishes since our kids are home and the bok choy was not good

    1. I've seen some of the family dishes and they look so good, I wish they would offer those recipes for the 2 person plan also. They have so few recipes and that's customers' major complaint, so I find it strange they wouldn't offer those recipes.
