This is a review of a restaurant called Porfirio's located in the Hotel Zone of Cancún. It's located across the road from the Ritz Carlton Hotel on the lagoon side. We visited on a Friday last August around 3:30 pm. They are open from 1 pm to 1 am everyday. We were immediately greeted by a woman who checked us in since we had a reservation and asked if we had any food allergies. We were promptly seated at a table which had a view of the lagoon but was inside. They also have outdoor seating, but I prefer to eat in the comfort of air conditioning. Notice in the first photo above you will see the tiny island on the lagoon side of Cancun. In the last photo you can see the large video screen on the wall and to the right of that is a live DJ. I imagine this would be even more festive during the evening hours during sunset and after. The music and videos were very enjoyable. It's not very busy around 3:30 pm, so if you don't like crowds this is the perfect time to visit.

It took us a wee bit to decide what we wanted to order since the menu is quite extensive. You might want to look at the menu online prior to arriving to determine what you want to order. Since we couldn't decide on just one entree we decided to share two entrees. I ordered the Marlin Tacos and Hubby ordered the Shrimp Tacos. We also ordered a large seltzer bottle of water to share. Eighteen minutes later they brought out the free appetizer which was delicious. It included four flat, crispy tortillas, beans with cheese on top, lime and three salsas. The salsas were avocado, mild and spicy. Five minutes later our entrees arrived. I wish they had given us enough time to enjoy the appetizer prior to delivering our entrees. Our favorite was the Marlin Tacos. I highly recommend you give them a try. On the menu it's described as "smoked marlin, jack cheese and chipotle mayonnaise". The shrimp tacos weren't as tasty. They were both served with a delicious green sauce. It was a good sized lunch serving. I would hope they would have a larger portion for dinner. If not, I would recommend ordering an appetizer also since there wasn't a lot of seafood in the tacos. Twenty minutes later they brought out the complimentary desserts. They taste just like a soft ice cream cone and they have the same crisp texture. Make sure you have some drink left because it's very dry and it sticks to your mouth. We just took a little sample since we didn't really care for it, but it was very festive.

The service was friendly and attentive. We enjoyed our visit and would consider returning, but first place still goes to Harry's Grill. What's your favorite restaurant in Cancún?
