Cashew Nut Chicken (Pad Ma Moung) - $7.99
This is a review for a restaurant called Orchids Thai located in Winston Salem, NC. We visited last Saturday at 12:30 pm. We were greeted as soon as we entered the dining room and offered any table we would like. If you enter on the right side you will be able to see the chalkboard which lists the specials for the day. If you enter on the left side you won't be able to see it since there is a half wall and decorations between the two areas. Their sanitation score is currently 92%. They are open from 11 am to 9 pm daily.
We were promptly given menus and the waitress, who I suspect is also one of the owners, returned quickly to take our order. Hubby ordered the Pad Thai Beef and I ordered the Cashew Chicken and they arrived twelve minutes after we placed our order. One of Hubby's favorite dishes is Pad Thai, so he's a bit picky when it comes to this dish. Since we moved, he's been on the hunt for one as good as a our old favorite restaurant, Sushi Thai in Cary. This one comes the closest so far. It came out very hot and it had the perfect amount of sauce and not too much egg. It's described as "our most famous Thai noodle dish, stir-fried with eggs, bean sprouts, scallions and tamarind sauce served with crushed ground peanuts and a wedge of lime". My Cashew Chicken advertised that it has a "light sauce" which is one reasons I ordered it because my stomach can't handle a heavy sugary sauce. The sauce was perfect! It managed to coat all the chicken lightly without leaving any sauce on the plate and it wasn't sugary at all. There was plenty of chicken which is awesome because some Thai restaurants don't give you enough chicken to be filling. It's described as "your choice of meat, sautéed with onions, green peppers, sweet red peppers, cashews and stir-fried in our homemade light soy sauce". The vegetables weren't over cooked which I find many Asian restaurants do, so I was very happy about that! They were also very fresh. Both dishes were very generous portions especially for lunch and they even come with a free spring roll on weekdays! The prices are very good, each entree was only $7.99 each. The hot jasmine tea and Diet Coke we ordered were $2 each. They also offer beer and wine. The atmosphere was quiet and peaceful and service was excellent and friendly. The table cloths on the tables are beautiful. Note that you will have to visit the register to pay your bill. I highly recommend you give this restaurant a try either for dining in or if you are lucky enough to live nearby, definitely try some take out or delivery. They offer delivery within five miles. If I lived nearby, I would be ordering take out or delivery up to four times a month for sure. So give them a try and let me know about your dining experience.
I need restaurant suggestions since we have only lived in Triad about a year. So please comment below! I have several more restaurant reviews in the works, so be sure to stop by again soon.
