The Honest Company Subscription Box

White Grapefruit Dish Soap, Auto Dishwasher Gel, Rinse Aid, Bathroom Cleaner, Fruit + Veggie Wash, Toilet Cleaner, Laundry Detergent, Dryer Cloths

This is monthly subscription service from The Honest Company for $35.95 per month with free shipping.   I used coupon "PlumB2S40" for 40% off.  So for eight products I paid $35.46. They send five products of your choice each month with the option of adding up to three more items at 25% off, which I did.  The categories are Cleaning, Health & Wellness, Bath & Body and Baby.  I selected items from the Cleaning category which has eighteen different items to chose from.  Their products are safe and non-toxic.  They do not include chemicals that are risky for your health!  They have avoided using hundreds of those toxic chemicals in their products. I'm always on the hunt for good products that are chemical free!  They have a satisfaction guarantee, if you're not satisfied with one of the products you can sent it back for an exchange or refund.  Shipping is via FedEx and is very quick, it took five business days from CA to NC.  I didn't care for the dish soap, I prefer the Method brand which has a stronger scent and lathers better.  I couldn't stand the auto dishwashing gel so much, I immediately went back to my favorite brand Kirklands from Costco after one use.  The dishwasher smells so much better after using Kirklands brand!  Rinse aid seems to be working well.  The bathroom cleaner was ok, but I went back to using my Lysol wipes & Method cleaners since they do a better job.  The Fruit + Veggie Wash works ok, but I will go back to my preferred brand called Veggie Wash when it's used up cause it smells so good and does an excellent job.  The toilet cleaner works ok, but I'm going back to my Method brand after it's gone.  I didn't care for the laundry detergent at all, it doesn't have any scent and I love laundry that has a strong floral scent.  I prefer again the Kirklands brand with lavender oil.  So I'm trying to use it every couple of washes till it's gone.  The Dryer Cloths are unusual in that they are wet and again, now that they are gone I'm back to using my Kirlands preferred brand.  If you like non-toxic products with no scent or just a hint of scent this is the line for you. It just happens that I love strongly scented products, so this line didn't work for me.

So there you have it, my latest subscription box find.  Are you going to subscribe or have you already? If you purchased them, what is your opinion?  I have reviewed many different subscription boxes on this blog.  To see them all check out my Subscription Box Pinterest Board.  Any that you would like more information on, just click on the photo and it will take you to the matching blog post.

You maybe able to remove the inner part and reuse the box.  I haven't tried to do so yet.  I'm most excited about the Dennis Basso fragrance since QVC doesn't give out samples and I really wanted to try it.  I really like it! I also wanted to try the lip polish and I did as soon as it arrived!  It takes very little, just a dab and it works quickly.  I'd recommend it.  I also wanted to try the Bliss hand cream in the Blood Orange scent since it will be a Black Friday Sephora sale item in the body wash.  The scent is so light, I prefer a stronger scent.  Could be given as a gift to a man since it's very light.  I look forward to trying the Laura Geller lip gloss next. It's very festive and could be used on top of another color for some added sparkle.  I will be placing the St. Tropez self tanner, Stila Lip Glaze, Nick Chevez Conditioner, Alterna Oil Mist, Mally eyeliner, and the Tarte eyeliner up for sale on my Blog Sale.  So be sure to check that out before you leave.

Lancôme DreamTone Review

Lancôme DreamTone Ultimate Dark Spot Corrector

I had the pleasure of receiving a complimentary full sized Lancôme DreamTone from SheSpeaks for review almost four weeks ago.  I have been using it in the morning and at night every day since then.  It is suppose to reduce the signs of dark spots, acne & redness on your face.  I have two sun spots on my cheek a little larger than the size of a pea.  After about two weeks I noticed a difference and after a little more than three weeks they are about 75% lighter.  I can still see them after applying my Tarte foundation, but I am hoping after another week or so they will not show through.  The best results are achieved after eight weeks, so I shall see. I tried the Clinique version recently and saw no results, so I was happy to find one that works!  It is also suppose to help redness, but unfortunately I haven't found it to help that at all.  I don't have acne, so I can't comment on that.  It has the feel of a primer, it makes your skin feel really soft.  It comes in three shades: fair, medium & dark.  It's a pump, which I prefer over jars since it's more sanitary.  It costs $98 for a 1.3 oz bottle, a bit pricey I'd say, but if you see results perhaps it would be worth the money if you can afford it.  I would guess it would be almost a three month supply though as soon as you stop using this type of product your spots will return.  If you know of a product that reduces redness on fair skin, please let me know.  I'd recommend this product for age spots and sun spots!  It currently has four out of five stars on Sephora's website.  I'd recommend purchasing it there since they have such a good return policy and free return shipping in case it doesn't work on your skin.

Julep's 50% Off Sale - November 2013

I found out Julep was having a incredible sale where everything was on sale 50% off including sale items and Maven priced items.  So all of the above only cost me $15.38 with free shipping!  Retail value is $90!  A savings of $74.62!  What a bargain!  What I bought during the sale:
  1. Casper - glow in the dark shimmer $2.49, $14 retail value
  2. Kai - blue sea salt finish, $1.99, $14 value
  3. Edith - cherry blossom pink creme with holographic glitter $3.50, $14 value
  4. The Champagne Trio - Amity, Clio & Reiko $4.99, $42 value
  5. Sparkle Hair Ties - $2.40, $6 value
Did you buy anything during the sale?  One complaint I have is the slow shipping.  It took ten days to arrive. Also, I found out they don't email their bargains to everyone at the same time. I have talked to other Mavens and there are several different times they email, which I find very strange. Everyone should be emailed the bargains at the same time so that it is fair!  Often I'll find out about a sale on a message board or from a friend prior to receiving the email. As you know really good bargains sell out fast, so that doesn't sit well with me.  I post bargains that I find on Twitter.  So be sure you follow me there to find out about these deals!

Birchbox - November 2013

More Good

This is a monthly cosmetic sample subscription service from Birchbox for $10 per month including shipping. There are several different boxes, so not everyone receives the same items.  Included in my November box were the following items:
  1. Elite Therapeutics - Shampoo & Conditioner, sample size
  2. Chella - Ivory Lace Highlighter Pencil, almost full size
  3. Fatty Sundays - Chocolate Covered Pretzel, sample size
  4. Dr. Jart+ - Water Fuse Beauty Balm SPF 25+, sample size
  5. Bare Love Beauty - Luxury Body Fuel, sample size
If Birchbox didn't have such a good point system for reviews and referrals, I would cancel this subscription since I haven't been liking most of the samples they have been sending me lately! Read more about their point system here. I tried the Body Fuel and it is very oily and feels quite yucky and sticky on the skin.  Perhaps, I'll just save it for really dry patches that I may get in the winter. But I usually don't get those since I moisturize daily year round.  I'm confused about the BB cream, since it doesn't come in shades yet says it's tinted? Anyone try it, what color is it? Not crazy about receiving food in a cosmetics subscription box! I'll be giving hubby the tiny pretzel. Really, they couldn't send a full sized pretzel?! I also don't like receiving shampoo or conditioner samples, since I only like to use one brand, WEN.  I'm on the fence about the Chella pencil. Check out their instructional YouTube video here.  Wow, that's a lot of uses for one product!  I may give it a try soon. This is the second one I received. The first one I sold on my Blog Sale and as a result made a super fabulous new friend! Check out her YouTube channel here! I will be selling the Dr. Jart and Elite samples on my Blog Sale along with many other items that came in my subscription boxes.  Be sure to check it out before you leave.

Also, check out what I received in previous Birchboxes:

Ipsy - October & November 2013

November 2013

October 2013

This is a monthly subscription box from Ipsy for only $10 a month including shipping.  Each month they send at least five cosmetics and a makeup bag.  Included in November's shipment were the following products:
  1. BH Cosmetics - Galaxy Chic Baked Eyeshadow in Asteroid, sample size, $1.27 value
  2. Pixi Beauty - Bronzer in Subtly Sunkissed, full size, $9 value
  3. Nailtini - Nail Polish in the color Champagne, full size, $13 value
  4. Em Cosmetics - Dramatic Volume Mascara in Brown, full size, $20 value
  5. Kitsch - Bollywood Hair Ties, free with referral points, $9.99 value
  6. Starlooks - Gem Eye Pencil in Topaz, full size, $14 value
  7. Be a Bombshell - Shameless Lip Crayon, $14 value
The approximate retail value of the November shipment comes to $71.27 not including the $9.99 referral bonus nor the makeup bag!  What an incredible value!  This is why this is my favorite inexpensive cosmetics subscription service!  I will be selling a couple of the items in my Blog Sale, so be sure to check it out before you leave.

Included in the October shipment were the following products:
  1. Sexy Hair - Blow Dry Volumizing Gel, travel size, $4 retail value
  2. Bare Minerals - Buxom Lip Gloss in Dolly, travel size, $4.83 value
  3. Olde Henriksen - Truth Creme Advanced Hydration, travel size, $6.61value
  4. Zoya - Mason Nail Polish, full size, $8 value
  5. Nourish Organic - Coconut & Argan Body Lotion, travel size, $1.24 value
The approximate retail value of the October shipment comes to $24.68 not including the makeup bag.  I gave the Volumizing Gel to a friend since I rarely blow dry my hair.  I love Buxom lip gloss and the Dolly color is one of my favorites.  The smaller size is perfect for your handbag.  I really like the quality of the Olde Henriksen line, so I'm always happy to receive something from that brand.  I like Zoya nail polish, but I already have a color so similar, so I'm selling that in my Blog Sale.  I hated the smell of the Nourish Organic body lotion.  It smells awful to me.

Sephora by OPI - Ruby Without a Cause Manicure

Photo taken outside on a cloudy day

The photo above shows my nails painted with the polish called Ruby Without a Cause from Sephora by OPI.  It is a duo chrome polish that appears plum when it's horizontal and cranberry when it's vertical.  Unfortunately, all the colors in the bottle do not appear on the nails.  My favorite brand of nail polish is Sephora by OPI, but this one started having tip wear on day one.  Day two, the nails showed about seven days of tip wear and day three they chipped.  I haven't had issues with this brand before including their other duo chrome polishes, so I was unpleasantly surprised.  We were in the middle of nine straight days of clouds and rain, so I was unable to enjoy this polish in the sun.  I removed it on day three since it chipped.  Normally I'm able to keep my manicure for at least seven days before chipping or any significant tip wear with the use of Manicure Keeper or Perfect Formula's base coat.  What's your favorite duo chrome polish?

I have over fifty manicures featured on this blog.  Take a quick glance at them all on my Pinterest Manicure Board.  Then simply click on the ones you want to read about on my blog, since they are linked to the matching blog post.

Tom Yum Thai - Cary, NC

Located at:  685 Cary Towne Blvd.
Cary, NC  27511

Phone:  919-463-5523

Interior Decor

Chicken Thai Cashew Nut

Beef Pad Thai

This is a restaurant review for Tom Yum Thai located in Cary, NC.  We had lunch there on a Saturday around 2 pm.  We prefer to go to late lunches or early dinners to avoid the crowds.  As you can see in the above picture, it was nice and quiet at that time.  There were two other groups of customers seated that had already left when I took the picture.  We were greeted immediately by a very friendly waiter who I would guess is one of the owners.  The food came out very promptly after we ordered and it was nice and hot.  The service and the food were excellent.  Hubby ordered the Pad Thai "medium" and found it very mild.  So he will order it "hot" next time.  My Cashew Chicken had just the right amount of cashews.  I find some places will give you too many.  The green peppers were perfectly cooked and that was good since that's what I've been craving lately. The rice was shaped into a pyramid. Presentation was impressive and it was really delicious.  Their restaurant sanitation score is currently 98%.  We really enjoyed our lunch and plan to return soon. I look forward to trying another flavor next time.  I recommend you give this restaurant a try soon!

Soap.com Fall Haul - $20 Off

The Tao of Tea Matcha & Breville Kettle

Above shows part of my first purchase from Soap.com.  While I was searching for a good price on Matcha, which can be quite expensive, I came across it for sale on Soap.com.  I learned they had a referral offer of 20% off your order up to $20, so I found a friend with a referral code and went shopping!  I was able to get the above Kettle for $20 off.  Bargain!  They also had better prices on tea than Amazon and Drugstore.com.  If you would like $20 off your first order, use the code "PEAC3598".  Also, remember to use Mr. Rebates for an additional 3% off your order. Your order will show up on your doorstep within two to three days!  The above shows the first shipment that showed up in two days.  The next day my tea order arrived.  That's amazing service.  If you ever need something quick and at a good price, this is the place to shop.  Several days later they sent me another 20% off code.  I'm loving this store!  Anyone else shop at Soap.com?  I highly recommend the Breville tea kettle also.  It has five temperature settings for green, white, oolong, french press or black tea.  Also a button to keep it warm for up to twenty minutes.  What online store do you shop the most for groceries?

Coco Allure Polish - Red Hot Manicure

Photo taken in the sunlight

The above photo shows my nails painted with the Indie polish from Coco Allure Polish in the color called Red Hot.  I purchased it in a haul from Llarowe. This is a nail polish that changes colors when the nails' temperature changes.  The nail that touches the skin is warm so it changes from dark purple to pink.  The tips of my nails that aren't touching the skin stay purple.  The colder they are the darker the purple gets.  The darkest purple is shown in the bottle.  It has fine & large blue glitter and fine pink glitter also.  I used two coats and found that was enough.  I also used Seche Vite top coat and one coat of that was enough to smooth out the glitter.  The base coat I used is Manicure Keeper by Orly and I used two coats.  I've heard that temperature changing polish has a short shelf life, so I was concerned when my polish didn't change colors at first.  But as soon as I took a shower a couple hours later, it started changing and has ever since.  If the nails touch something cold or hot such as a computer or a beverage, they will change color again.  It's a really fun polish and I highly recommend it.  It was also easy to apply.  The glitter stayed put and even got near the cuticle line which is where I usually have trouble with glitter.  I would recommend that you use this polish when your nails are at their longest to show off the color change best.  Have you tried a temperature changing polish yet?

I have featured over fifty manicures on this blog.  Take a quick glance at them all on my Pinterest Manicure Board.  Then simply click on the ones you want to read about on my blog, since they are linked to the matching blog post.
