Slatkin Holiday Candles by ScentWorx - Kohl's Christmas 2019

Harry Slatkin started selling a line of candles called ScentWorx at Kohl's this fall.  The holiday collection is already on store shelves and online. I love the metallic glass jars with the metal lids, they are so beautiful! Since his candles retail for $26.99 and haven't gone on sale for less than $15 I figured I wouldn't be able to afford this collection. So when I saw that for the Columbus Day sale they were allowing stacking of coupons and I had $5 of Kohl's Cash I placed a couple of them in my cart and started figuring out the best price I could get. The cheapest way to order them was in a set of four which brought them down to $9.45 each. Since they were cheaper in sets of two and they don't give you the lower price on the 3rd one it was best to order four. All of the discounts totaled to $32.20. The only one I didn't buy in the Special Edition Holiday Collection was Sugared Plum. These scents are also available in the same colored octagon glass containers that the fall candles were offered in, plus the following scents: Holiday Cheer, Snowfall, Frosted Berry, Spiced Pinecone and White Pine. I purchased the following:

  • Sugar Cookie - vanilla bean, buttercream, spun sugar, and sugar crystals
  • O'Christmas Tree - mountain evergreen, fresh balsam, sparkling woods, and amber
  • Cinnamon Wreath - winter greens, cinnamon stick, nutmeg, and cloves buds
  • Winter Night - fir balsam, warm amber, aromatic cedar, and warm woods

Sugar Cookie is very similar to Bath & Body Works' Merry Cookie candle which usually I find too sweet and too strong. It's not the same every year. The ScentWorx version smells just like cookies baking in the oven, delish! This is my 2nd favorite of the four, this is Hubby's 3rd favorite.

O'Christmas Tree is very similar to Bath & Body Works' Evergreen Candle which I love. It has a wonderful balsam scent which is a bit more complex and sophisticated than the B&BW Fresh Balsam candle. The ScentWorx version smells mostly like a pine tree. It has a bit of a fruity scent, I'm not sure if it's pear or berry it's hard to make out. This one is my 3rd favorite out of the four, this is Hubby's 2nd favorite.

Cinnamon Wreath is wonderful! I love cinnamon candles year-round but especially during the holidays. It is similar to Holiday from Bath & Body Works which is one of my favorite candles. Hubby & I agree this is our favorite of the four candles.

Winter Night is similar to Bath & Body Works' Winter candle which we love. The ScentWorx version has mostly a cedar scent, so Hubby and I both agree it takes 4th place.

These candles took about forty-five minutes to pool (melt from edge to edge) and the scent came out in about ten to fifteen minutes. The throw is very good, I'd say about eight out of ten. None of them were overwhelming nor too light. I'm basing my rating in an open concept home in a two-story living room. I ordered online for in-store pickup to save on shipping and the O'Christmas Tree candle had a label that was bent over on one corner. One candle needed its label air bubbles pushed out and one candle had it's 3-Wicks a bit off-center. If you are picky, buy them in person rather than online. You will have to hunt them down though. I found some at the checkout, some at customer service and some in the hallway near the home section. I've never found them in the candle section. The glass jars are so beautiful, they would make for impressive gift and no wrapping paper is necessary. Love them! These jars could be repurposed. Just place them in a freezer overnight upside down and pop out any leftover wax with a knife the next day. These candles are too large to fit inside some Bath & Body Works Candle Holders, but they can sit atop those that don't have tall edges as shown above. It is stated they will burn up to 40 hours. I'm still burning Scarlet Leaves, it is lasting longer than Bath & Body Works' comparable Leaves 14.5 oz candle.

If you are a fan of strong cinnamon-scented candles grab a couple of Harry's Cinnamon Wreath Candles. If you are a fan of the smell of cookies baking in the oven you must grab a Sugar Cookie candle! But I warn you, you may find "Sugar Cookies" written on your grocery list. You could use the excuse they are for Santa. If you're showing a house for sale, this candle is a must. If you love the smell of a live Christmas tree, then grab O'Christmas Tree. I would skip Winter Night unless you love the smell of cedar. Grab Winter from Bath & Body Works instead. We love that one, it's hoard worthy. If you have Kohl's Cash to spend, now you have something worth spending it on. Don't forget to use coupons!
