Since I'm a fan of Will Smith I decided to see this movie in theatres, but my guess was that I would have given it three out of five stars. After seeing it, I gave it four stars, it was certainly better than I expected. If you are also a fan of Will Smith and you enjoy Disney, adventure, romance and musicals, this movie is worth a trip to your local theatre. It's visually entertaining on the big screen, so you may not want to wait until it's on DVD and on demand. It's available in 3D if you want to pay extra, I saw it in 2D. The costumes, the set, and songs were entertaining along with the story. Naomi's singing was incredible and I became a fan of Mena. I wasn't crazy about him in the trailer, but he grows on you. I was a bit worried that Will wouldn't appear much, but thankfully he's in the 1st scene and reappears after about the first 35 minutes or so. Check out the trailer:
You'll leave this movie singing one of the songs in your head for sure. It was an action filled, fun movie, with a twist and a tearjerker scene. Ah, Disney you always make me tear up. While it's listed as a comedy, I wouldn't agree. Some of the audience chuckled a few times, but that was it. It's two hours and eight minutes long. The beginning starts with a song, then an action scene before it becomes a bit slow for just a bit and then it continues with songs, dancing, romance, and action. It's a movie I'd watch over again to see the things I missed while it was moving so quickly. While the credits roll, there is one last dance scene. It may not capture the attention of children under six and they might not understand some of the conversations. While the movie looks like it was filmed on a set rather than on location, the Disney magic comes out for sure and it's visually entertaining in most scenes. Put this on your calendar and go see it soon.
