This is a review of our 22nd delivery from a food subscription box called Hello Fresh. This week we gave all three recipes four out of five stars. Calories range from 570 to 810 and preparation time stated on the recipe cards is 40 minutes for all three. Actual preparation time ranged from 38 to 60 minutes. My favorite was the duck followed by the shrimp and the fajita recipe comes in last. Hubby's favorite was the shrimp.
Pan Seared Duck Breasts with Duck Fried Potatoes, Baby Broccoli, and Grape Tomatoes
Whenever Hello Fresh offers duck, I immediately order it. They have the highest quality duck and it's scrumptious. If you like lamb, I bet you would like duck, it has a similar texture. The sauce didn't turn out well, so we skipped it, yet the duck was so delicious. The potatoes were tasty, what a great idea to cook them in the duck fat! I prefer baby broccoli over regular broccoli since it doesn't have such a strong flavor. If you're not a fan of broccoli you should give baby broccoli a try since it's so healthy. It was a healthy portion coming in at only 602 calories. The recipe states 45 minutes preparation time, but it took Hubby 60 minutes. We gave this recipe four out of five stars. If you want to try out their duck, they are offering it again August 11-17th.
Fun Day Fajita Bar with Southwestern Pork, Tomato Salsa, and Cheddar Cheese
Who doesn't love fajitas, we certainly do, so I had to order this meal kit. It was a generous tasty portion coming in at 810 calories. We had never tried fajita with pork before and it was a nice change since we love pork. This was a yummy meal. We would have liked a bit more spice, more cheese, and more sour cream though the last two would up the calorie count. We also thought there was too much red bell pepper. Also, I would have preferred regular tomatoes rather than grape tomatoes though they make a prettier presentation. The recipe card states 40 minutes preparation time and it took Hubby 49 minutes. We gave this recipe four out of five stars. If you want to try this recipe yourself, it's available again September 8th-14th.
Sizzling Hoisin Shrimp with Ginger Scallion Rice and Crispy Green Beans
We gave this recipe four out of five stars, it was a divine blend of sweet and savory. Just thinking about it is making me hungry. We would have liked more shrimp, but this was meant to be a low-calorie meal coming in at only 570 calories. Anytime I see a recipe that uses hoisin sauce I order it since we both love its flavor and Hello Fresh comes up with wonderful recipes using it. Roasted green beans are surprisingly tasty. We usually just steam them. The jasmine rice was a tasty delight. If you haven't tried different types of rice you should really give them all a try and find your favorite. Jasmine rice is our favorite. It has such a wonderful texture and flavor and just the addition of some butter makes it the perfect comfort food. It took 38 minutes to prepare, two minutes under what the recipe states.
It was yet another enjoyable week of recipes!
