This is a review of our first Green Chef delivery. Green Chef is an organic meal delivery subscription box that send you three recipes and all the ingredients to make them weekly. They offer Vegetarian for $10.49 a serving, Omnivore for $11.99, Carnivore for $13.49, Gluten Free for $13.49 and Paleo for $14.99. There are 9 recipes each week. I purchased the Omnivore which is two meat recipes and one vegetarian recipe. Shipping is $9 per box. Shipping is available for arrival on Wednesday, Thursday or Friday via FedEx. Choice of meals for 2, 4 or 6 people. The recipe cards are printed in color on 8 1/2" x 11" cardstock. This week we gave two recipes five out of five stars and one recipe Hubby and I disagreed on. He gave it five stars and I gave it three. Calorie count ranged from 543 to 648 and cooking times ranged from 25 minutes to 40. Sauces and dressings are made by Green Chef to save you time. Each recipe is color coded. Notice in the photos above Chicken Kiev had purple labels, Pesto Ricotta Flatbread was blue and Harissa Romesco Steak was orange. For shipping they use recycled cardboard, twelve ice packs and jute insulation.

Spinach Herb Chicken Kiev, Thyme Roasted Purple Cauliflower & Arugula Salad

We absolutely loved this recipe and we both gave it five out of five stars. I felt underdressed since it felt like a meal you would get at a fine restaurant. Just some olive oil and thyme made the cauliflower scrumptious. The spinach filling was really good, they made it for us which saved us time. The dressing was also made for us and it was really delicious. This recipe took forty minutes to prepare and it had only 543 calories. For such a low calorie meal, it was surprisingly  filling.

Pesto Ricotta Flatbread, Veggies & Olives, Crispy Chickpeas & Spinach Salad

This was our vegetarian recipe. Hubby gave it five out of five stars and I gave it three. Hubby loves meat and isn't usually fond of vegetarian meals, so this was quite surprising. I would have liked more cheese on the pizza and I wasn't crazy about the corn on it. The salad needed more spinach and less chickpeas. It took about thirty-five minutes to prepare, though it said twenty-five. It had 628 calories and it was very filling, so much so that we had leftover salad.

Harissa Romesco Steak, Asparagus & Apricot Farro & Baby Kale Salad

Wow, this recipe was impressive! We both gave it five out of five stars and we were amazed by the flavors. The Harissa Romesco sauce and red wine vinaigrette were made for us and both were perfection. They even added the spices to the farro for us. The spices were so tasty! Who would have thought that dried apricots would be tasty in farro. That little bit of sweetness made it incredible! If you have never had grass fed meat, you owe it to yourself to give it a try! It tastes and smells so much better and it's healthier. Our dogs are always more interested in our cooking when we cook with grass fed meat, the difference it quite noticeable. This recipe was a superb combination of ingredients. It took thirty-five minutes to prepare and it had 648 calories. It was a generous portion.

We are so very impressed with our first shipment from Green Chef. Currently, they are our favorite. Though they are more expensive than most of the competition, they offer grass fed meat, organic ingredients and pre-made sauces and dressings. We are anxious to receive our second box which will include the following recipes:
  1. Seared Tuna Provençal, Sauce Gribiche & Roasted Veggie Panzanella Salad
  2. Indian Spiced Steak, Sautéed Chard, Tomatoes & Fennel & Spiced Rice
  3. Chicken Market Salad, Potatoes, Corn, Lima Beans & Goat Cheese Dressing
I changed our plan from Omnivore to Carnivore. You can also tell them which types of proteins you don't want such as: beef, poultry, pork, lamb, shellfish, fish and game. All of this can be done on their easy to use website and you can chose to skip future deliveries up to six weeks in advance.
