This is a review of a movie called The Favourite which was released to theatres on December 26th, 2018. It is two hours long emphasis on the long! It has been nominated for several Academy Awards. Oliva Coleman won a Golden Globe for best actress. I tend to dislike most of the movies that win awards and this one is no exception. After seeing the trailer I put in on my list of movies to see but at the bottom. Since I had seen all of the movies I really wanted to see, I decided to see this one. I wish I had not! I found it to be a bizarre, slow-moving movie that poked fun at mental illness and to top it off it ended with animal abuse. Check out the trailer:

After watching the trailer I thought since it made me chuckle a bit, it might be a funny movie about friendship. It's listed as a Biography, Drama and a Comedy. A comedy it is not! While watching this depressing movie, the bits that are funny as a short clip in the trailer are not funny while watching the movie in its entirety. The audience did not laugh once during the movie. It is also not a Biography for there is no proof that the Queen was a lesbian, sexually abusive nor that Lady Sarah was poisoned. It's really a fluff piece with very little historical facts presented during the two hours. The plot is so loose and simple which make it horribly boring. It's quite depressing watching the sexually abusive, mentally ill Queen and her "favorites" played by Emma Stone and Rachel Weisz. Who knew this was about lesbians! How naive of me I guess. Yeah, after a long beginning it is revealed that two of the characters are lesbians and the third one participates to get what she wants. The movie is so boring, the most interesting part is the costumes. There are so many scenes of them walking the very long, dark and dismal halls. Why they show them walking down them over and over again is beyond me. It also has a horrible alarm type sound during several of the scenes.  The cake scene is downright disgusting and may be a trigger for those with bulimia. This scene is just one example that gives me the impression that the writer hates these female characters and that they may represent someone they hate in their real life. Definitely do not bother seeing this movie in the theatre and don't put it on your DVD list either unless it's at the very bottom and you've run out of movies to watch. To give you an idea of how horrific this movie is let's briefly visit the ending. It ends with Abagail killing a rabbit by stepping on it with her shoe's pointy heel. Yeah, that was really a necessary part of the movie, not! Why do they insist on showing the abuse of animals!?! Makes me so angry. Then we watch Queen Anne who recently had a stroke pathetically drag her body out of bed and insist that Abagail pleasure her while the camera zooms in on her face showing her disgust for the Queen. Then the screen turns white and the audience waits for what feels like an eternity in silence and then the credits are shown. Most of the audience watched the credits instead of leaving thinking surely that wasn't the end and that more would be shown. The audience was shocked and disappointed in the ending for sure. What's the strangest movie you have seen lately?
