This is a review of a steakhouse located in Apex, North Carolina called Longhorn Steakhouse. It's located in the Beaver Creek Crossing Shopping Center located near TJ Maxx & Regal Cinema. It's a franchise and while we tend to avoid franchises, this one is pretty good. Their health score is currently 98.5 which is very good. They are open from 11 am until 10 pm except Friday and Saturday when they stay open one hour later. We arrived around 2:30 pm on a Thursday, a rare weekday off for my husband before the hurricane arrived. They only had a few other customers. We were immediately greeted by a friendly hostess and seated at a booth. The decor is lovely and it looks clean for the most part. There was some food on the carpet though which wasn't picked up at any time during our visit.
Shortly after being seated the friendly waitress arrived and took our drink order. The arrival of our drinks and the honey wheat bread were prompt arriving only a couple of minutes later. The bread was warm, not hot. It's pretty tasty, but not crave-worthy. They are currently having a lunch special called the Great American Steak Dinner for only $12.99 which includes an appetizer, soup or dessert, plus a salad, a 6 oz. sirloin steak, and one side. We both decided to have the special. We chose the Shrimp and Lobster Chowder and the House Salad. The soup arrived about four minutes after our drinks and bread. The chowder was ok, but I don't think I would order it again. There were just a couple of shrimp and I didn't notice any lobster. Perhaps it was just lobster flavoring. I think I'll try the Potato Soup instead next time. The salad arrived thirteen minutes after the soup. The salad didn't have enough toppings, I would have liked a lot more onion and cheese! It was fresh, chilled and tasty. We both had the Ranch Dressing on the side and it was of high quality and delicious. Seventeen minutes later our entrees arrived. I asked for my steak medium rare and Hubby asked for medium. After a bite, we realized they had swapped our steaks. We mentioned it to the waitress and shortly after the manager came by and apologized for the mix-up. We didn't make a fuss yet he took my steak off the bill so that was unexpected and a nice surprise. The steak was tasty and tender, but not as delicious as Firebirds. The small loaded baked potato was missing butter, so I used some of the butter that came with the bread. I recommend skipping the bacon since it's chewy, not crisp. The steak is very small, but since it comes with soup, salad, bread, and a side it's enough to be filling. If you are craving a steak, I'd go for a larger size steak. They offer an 8 oz. sirloin steak for $15.99 or you could skip the special and just order a steak dinner instead. I enjoyed the special since it offered several courses. I was grateful that each course arrived separately. I really dislike it when wait staff delivers more than one at a time or without enough time between courses. Overall it was an enjoyable experience. We shall visit again and I recommend you give this restaurant a try.
