If you have never had a Krispy Kreme donut before you owe it to yourself to experience them at least once! If there aren't any locations near you, take a road trip and try one. Every location that I have been to in North Carolina has had excellent customer service with the friendliest, most patient and efficient staff around. They greet customers with a smile every single day. They are always patient while you make the difficult decision of which donuts to purchase and are more than happy to answer any questions you have. You'll never feel rushed to make your decision or uninformed about the donuts available. They are always quick at checkout inside and at the drive thru. Though I really recommend going inside because you can watch them make the glazed donuts which they make all day long. And who doesn't enjoy seeing all the donuts in the case. What a sight! It's rare to not see the "hot now" sign on. You must try a glazed donut, it's unlike any other brand and they will give you one hot right off the line. You don't even have to ask for a hot one, if you order one, they walk over to the machine and grab a fresh one for you. If you aren't able to eat it right away, you can warm the donut in the microwave for twelve seconds and eat it with a fork. It's so good hot. Resist the temptation to buy them from the grocery store, they just aren't as fresh as buying them seconds after they are made. Believe me, it's worth the trip to their shop! This particular location is across from the Trader Joe's in Winston Salem. Their customer service is top notch, so I highly recommend this location.
The Santa Belly donut is filled with delicious chocolate frosting which is very thick. You may want to stop at just one of these since they are very sweet. The snowman isn't filled with anything. I wish they had filled it with vanilla frosting. The red velvet donut has cream cheese frosting in the donut's hole. Wow is this decadent and delicious. If you love cake donuts, you must try this one. It's my favorite of the four pictured above. During non holiday time my favorite is the glazed donut filled with raspberry jam. The holiday sprinkles donut is a glazed donut with strawberry icing on top and sprinkles. Unlike other brands that just put the glaze on top, theirs has icing all over.
If you are ever in the Winston Salem area you must make a stop in historic Old Salem to see the location of the very first Krispy Kreme Shop. I recommend eating at The Tavern first, review on this blog. Then take a walk down Main Street until you come across the plaque as shown above. Sadly, the building is no longer there. Browse around while you are there since there is lots to see in Old Salem. It's an enjoyable walk since it's like walking back in time.
