Burmese Chicken Aloo with Japanese Sweet Potatoes

Ingredients

Mrs. Scorsese's Lemon Chicken

Ingredients

This week we didn't make the third recipe, Turkey Keema with Peas & Cucumber Raita, since the ground turkey was bad and I didn't feel like shopping for a replacement. We got food poisoning from the Mrs. Scorsese's Lemon Chicken. I think it was the chicken broth which wasn't sent in it's original packaging like it normally is. If you look at the photo above, you will see it was poured into another container which reduces it's shelf life considerably. I thought it didn't look right, but since I've come to trust Sun Basket we unfortunately used it anyway. The instructions for cooking the baby broccoli caused it to burn. It was the worst week ever from Sun Basket! If it hadn't been for the Burmese Chicken recipe it would have been a complete bust.

Burmese Chicken Aloo with Japanese Sweet Potatoes

We made this recipe before and absolutely loved it and this time was no exception giving it five out of five stars. If you haven't tasted a Japanese sweet potato before, you have to give it a try. They are so delicious! I wish I could find them locally. This recipe is like the Japanese version of chicken soup, so comforting and scrumptious! It only has 600 calories, yet it's very filling. It's a Paleo and gluten free recipe and preparation time indicated is 30-40 minutes. Actual preparation time was one hour.

Mrs. Scorsese's Lemon Chicken

I was excited about this recipe, but it landed up being extremely disappointing and it made us sick. I will never use chicken broth that isn't sent in it's original packaging ever again, lesson learned! I thought it might be off and I wish I had thrown it out. Such a big mistake! The instructions for cooking the baby broccoli caused it to burn in the oven, so we couldn't eat that part. Plus, they only sent us one small potato, so as you can see in the photo we only had a couple slices of it each. It was definitely not anywhere near 3/4 of a pound as indicated by the recipe. Also, there was too much rosemary since we didn't have enough potato. The lemon was overwhelming, it would have been better with much less. We gave this recipe one star. It has only 520 calories, it' gluten free and it says it will take 35-45 minutes to prepare. Actual preparation time was 40 minutes.

What a disappointing week of recipes it was. They managed to go from my favorite down to my least favorite subscription box all in one week! I had already ordered another week of recipes, so I'll have one more Sun Basket review. I'll be taking a long break from Sun Basket due to the food poisoning. I'm waiting to hear their response. Lately customer service takes a very long time to respond. The automated response says up to 72 hours. Last time it took 8 days which is ridiculous. I expect companies to respond with one day and if they can't they need to hire more staff!
