This is a review of the 41st box we have received from a weekly food subscription box called Home Chef. We gave two of the recipes five out of five stars and one recipe two stars. The two five star recipes were repeats. We have now made 158 of their recipes! See photos of all our recipe results on my Home Chef Pinterest Board.
Skinny Chicken Mozzarella with Basil Marinara & Garlicky Greens
We gave this recipe five out of five stars and this is the second time we have made it. See our previous recipe results here. It tastes just like chicken parmesan yet it doesn't have the high calorie breading on it. It's absolutely scrumptious, I just wish they provided a larger portion of chicken. Since about last November they started sending smaller pieces of chicken. Also, the package burst during shipping and leaked chicken juice on the rest of the protein laying next to it. They have told me for months now that these issues would be improved, but they have yet to. I avoid the chicken dishes for this reason except for the five star ones. The kale and spinach side dish is also delicious. This one took about thirty-five minutes to prepare and it had only 564 calories. It doesn't taste like diet food at all, in fact it's crave worthy!
Tex Mex Turkey Taco Salad with Corn, Avocado, Pickled Onion & Sour Cream
We gave this recipe five out of five stars and this is the second time we have made it. Check out our previous recipe results here. It is so very tasty! This is a very generous portion of food and I had enough left over for lunch the next day. Having leftovers lowers the 802 calorie count. It took about thirty-five minutes to prepare. It the perfect summer dish.
Lamb Meatball Pita with Garlicky Tahini Sauce & Minted Chickpea Mash
I really love lamb, so I always order the lamb dishes, but this one was disappointing. I found the chickpea mash very unappetizing, so I used some hummus I had on hand instead. The meatballs were ok, but they dried out a bit since there were baked and they made a mess of my oven spattering all over. I think they would have tasted better if they were cooked in the pan instead. This dish was screaming for some tzatziki sauce and it would have been much taster than the tahini that was provided. This one said it would take forty minutes, but it was closer to an hour. I gave it two stars since I had a hard to finishing it since I found it unappetizing. Hubby ate the second portion another day since he was out of town when I made it, he said it was pretty good and gave it three stars. The dish also needed some more color, some tomatoes and red onion would also have been a great improvement. This one had 1027 calories, which is shockingly high.
I appreciate that Home Chef repeats customers' favorite recipes. It's nice to be able to pick a dish that I know I will enjoy rather than the gamble of picking a new one and hoping we love it. For those who haven't received as many boxes as we have, you should try some of the recipes that are labeled "customers' favorite" since the odds are you will probably enjoy it. I recommend you search my blog (search engine over on the right side) or my Home Chef Pinterest Board for customers' favorite dishes since the odds are I have probably made it before. You can read my review to help you decide if it's right for you prior to ordering.
