This is a review of the 25th box of food and recipes we have received from Home Chef. Each week they offer twelve recipes and a fruit basket to chose from. One is a smoothie, one is breakfast and usually three of them are vegetarian. Some are low calorie, low carb and some are gluten free. Each dinner entree is $9.95, smoothies are $4.95 and the fruit is $4.95. Occasionally, there is an special recipe that is higher in price due to the ingredients. They just added dessert for the first time for the week of December 21st. It's Holiday Lemon Cheesecake and it looks so delicious! For New Years they have added appetizers! I'm looking forward to trying those. This week we gave two recipes four out of five stars and one three stars.

S'mores Smoothie with Graham Cracker Crumbles

I'm not a big fan of S'mores and I think I've only had them once in my life, but I thought Hubby would enjoy this smoothie. I gave it three out of five stars since it's not tasty enough for the amount of calories. 449 calories is a lot especially since it mostly tasted like chocolate milk to me. The marshmallow and graham cracker flavors were a bit overwhelmed by the yogurt, chocolate syrup and milk. I really prefer fruit smoothies with added vegetables when it smoothies. For instance, their Key Lime Pie Smoothie was to die for and it only had 205 calories! It tasted just like Key Lime Pie, so wonderful!

Chicken Drumsticks a la Brasa with Sweet Potato Fries & Jalapeño Garlic Dipping Sauce

Wow was the dipping sauce in this recipe scrumptious! It's totally crave worthy and it will be my go to dipping sauce recipe for chicken! So simple yet fabulous! Simply mix together two ounces mayonnaise, one ounce sour cream, eight cilantro sprigs, the juice of half of a lime, 1 tsp. white wine vinegar, once clove of garlic minced, half tsp. olive oil, salt, pepper and minced jalapeño to taste. We used about half a jalapeño since we like it quite spicy. The marinade for the chicken was also delicious. 1 tbsp cumin, 1 tbsp paprika, 2 tbsp. white wine vinegar (minus 1 tsp. for dipping sauce), 1 clove garlic minced, 3 tbsp. olive oil, salt and pepper. I think a great variation of this recipe be would be soft tacos with chicken breast. Cooking the chicken in the pan in small pieces instead of baking. Then adding some romaine lettuce to the bottom of the taco, chicken on top and pour the dipping sauce on top. Yum! We had a pretty small sweet potato, so I would have preferred a second one or a larger one. The sweet potato fries should have been baked on a separate tray since they got a bit soggy sitting next to the juice of the chicken. This recipe had 842 calories and it took about thirty-five minutes. It's such a quick, easy and delicious recipe! We gave it four out of five stars taking away a point due to the sweet potato issues.

Japanese Sirloin Steak with Mirin Demi Glace with Buttery Glazed Carrots & Rice

We gave this recipe four out of five stars since it was very delicious, but we felt there wasn't enough carrot so we took away one point. The steak was very tender and the steak sauce was awesome! It was made with 1/4 cup water, 1 oz Bonewerks Classic Veal Demi, 1 oz mirin, .2 oz Asian spice mix and 2 oz tonkatsu sauce. It was such a wonderful flavor to add to steak. It's similar to katsu sauce you get in a Japanese restaurant, but so much tastier. The jasmine rice was nice and fluffy and sticky as usual. It took about forty minutes to prepare and it had 935 calories.
