This is a review of the 24th box of food and recipes we have received from Home Chef. Each week they offer twelve recipes and a fruit basket to chose from. One is a smoothie, one is breakfast and usually three of them are vegetarian. Some are low calorie, low carb and some are gluten free. Each dinner entree is $9.95, smoothies are $4.95 and the fruit is $4.95. Occasionally, there is an special recipe that is higher in price due to the ingredients. They just added dessert for the first time for the week of December 21st. It's Holiday Lemon Cheesecake and it looks so delicious! This week we gave one recipe five out of five stars, one four stars and one three stars.

Double Chocolate Pancakes with Caramel Sauce, Strawberry Compote, Maple Syrup & Pistachio Cream Cheese

Wow, what fancy pancakes! They are like nothing I've ever had before. I felt like I was dining in a expensive hotel restaurant. They were incredibly decadent and I gave them four out of five stars. I would have preferred real maple syrup rather than one made of corn syrup, so we used our own syrup from Costco. I would have also preferred to add egg to the flour mix rather than having a mix without fresh eggs, so I took a star off for those reasons. The idea of cream cheese on my pancakes seemed really strange, but as soon as I tasted I realized it was a fabulous idea. Simply mix two ounces of cream cheese, half an ounce of chopped pistachios, half of one orange's zest and 1 tsp. powdered sugar. I dare you to try this on your pancakes next time. You will love it! This recipe had 1097 calories and it took about thirty-five minutes to prepare. If you are going to splurge and have an entree with lots of calories, this is the one to try!

Coconut Crusted Shrimp with Sweet Chili Slaw, Jasmine Rice & Lime Crema

I crave shrimp a lot and I really love shrimp coated in shredded coconut, so I had to order this recipe. The coconut shrimp was really delicious, but we gave it only three stars since we weren't crazy about the choice of dressing for the slaw and the dip for the shrimp. The slaw was ok with the sweet chili sauce, but I would have preferred to dip the shrimp in that sauce since I like sweet dips rather than citrus dips for my shrimp. The jasmine rice was nice and sticky and the perfect texture. This recipe took about forty minutes to prepare and it had 830 calories.

Sirloin Steak & Bleu Cheese Salad with Honey Caramelized Onions & Walnuts

Who knew onions cooked in honey would be so delectable on top of steak! It was so delicious that we gave this recipe five out of five stars. The salad dressing is made of 2 tsp. of red wine vinegar, 1 tsp. of dijon mustard and 1 tbsp. of olive oil. I highly recommend giving it a try yourself, no more need for unhealthy store bought dressings with soybean oil or the dreaded corn syrup! Don't do it, make this simply, easy and delicious dressing yourself instead! We didn't make the croutons because we aren't crazy about croutons in our salad, so we just had ate the baguette with some Irish butter. The blue cheese on the salad was so yummy, they always send high quality blue cheese. I can't stand the taste of lower quality blue cheese, so they have made me a lover of this cheese. This recipe states that is  takes thirty minutes to prepare, but Hubby found the onions needed to be cooked at a lower heat and slower. Hubby burned the walnuts, so you'll notice they are missing in the photo above. He recommends doing them while not multitasking since they need constant supervision while toasting them in the pan. This recipe had 575 calories and the perfect portion. What a wonderful low calories recipe!
