Birchbox - December 2015

All Wrapped Up - December Birchbox

This is a review of a subscription box called Birchbox which costs only $10 per month and includes shipping. The approximate retail value of this month's box is $19.75. Certainly not as good as some previous boxes, but it did come with a $10 coupon. Also, we receive a $5 store credit when we review the cosmetics in our box. So it's like we were paid $5 to order this box after we use our coupon and store credit! That's a pretty good bargain! We had the option of choosing one of the items in our box from a selection of three eye shadow duos or a volumizing spray and I chose one of the eye shadow duos. The rest of my box was a surprise. We also could chose a curated box, but I didn't care for the items in it.

Included in my December box were the following cosmetics:
  1. Christian Siriano - Silhouette Eau de Parfum, .04 fl oz, $1.60 retail value
  2. Malin + Goetz - Clarifying Clay Mask, .5 fl oz, $7.06 value
  3. Coastal Scents - styleEyes Eyeshadow Palette, .023 oz, $.60
  4. Jane Iredale - Just Kissed Lip & Cheek Stain in Forever Peach, $3 approximate value
  5. Gorge - I'll Make You Amazing Daily Spray for hair, 1 fl oz, $7.49 value
  6. Coupon - $10 off $35 purchase at
My favorite items in the box are the clay mask from Malin + Goetz and the daily spray for hair by Gorge. I love the scent of the leave in conditioner for hair, it reminds me of tanning lotion from the 80's. Though $29.95 for a 4 oz bottle is way too expensive for me to purchase. Which is a shame because it smells so good! I'll just stick to my lavender Wen oil which I mix with water and spray on. I was excited to see a face mask since I'm in the market for a new one, but this one is for oily skin and my skin is dry. We filled out our profiles when we joined yet sometimes they just don't pay attention to them and send us a product sample that doesn't match our profile. I'm not a fan of the lip stain, I prefer lip gloss or lipstick. It does seem moisturizing though. The eye shadow is from a brand I would never purchase, but they are in fun colors that are perfect for wearing at a Christmas party. The perfume is from a brand I've never heard of and I'm not a fan of the scent. I have a ton of perfume and stopped buying more over a year ago because I have so many. So I'd prefer they stop sending me perfume samples since I'm not in a market for a new one.

This box wasn't as exciting as previous boxes, but since it didn't cost me anything in the long run, it's ok. I will enjoy using the leave in conditioner for my hair. It's the perfect scent for when you want to pretend you aren't in the middle of winter and want to transport yourself back to summer! If you subscribe to Birchbox, did you like your December box? If not, why haven't you subscribed?
