This is a review of the 19th delivery we have received from a weekly food subscription box called Sun Basket. This week we gave one recipe five out of five stars, two recipes three stars and one recipe two stars. Calories ranged from 190 to 760 and preparation time ranged from five to thirty-five minutes. All four recipes are paleo and gluten free and two are vegetarian. Two breakfast recipes are sent for the same price as one dinner recipe. This week the two breakfast recipes are both smoothies.

Steak & Eggs with Tomato Cauliflower Rice

While it look delicious, it was in fact not. This was the worst recipe we have had so far. The combination of paprika, tomato paste, rice and tomatoes was awful. The steak sauce was made with maple syrup and scallions and it had such an unpleasant flavor. Their pasture raised organic eggs are always delicious, but the steak was tough and we threw most of it out. The chopped up cauliflower we received stunk as soon as I opened the box, so I had to throw that down the disposal immediately. I contacted Sun Basket via email to inform them of this issue. We were given a credit on our account for the cauliflower. We used jasmine rice as a substitute. This recipe has 600 calories and it takes about thirty minutes to prepare. It's a gluten free and paleo recipe.

Gingered Turkey Meatballs in Lemongrass Broth

We both gave this recipe three out of five stars. I had high hopes for it since all of the other recipes that included lemongrass were scrumptious. One problem was that there wasn't enough broth. Again, the prechopped cauliflower was bad upon arrival, so we substituted jasmine recipe. I wasn't crazy about the mint flavor in this one. The baby kale went bad before we used it, so we bought some regular kale to substitute. This recipe has 760 calories and it took about thirty-five minutes to prepare. It's a paleo and gluten free recipe.

Pear Kale Tonic Smoothie

This was our favorite recipe for the week. Hubby gave it five out of five stars and I gave it four stars. At first taste it had a very healthy greens taste, but then it turned into the flavors of pear, honey and cucumber with a slight sweetness that was delicious. It's a immunity boosting drink packed with iron, vitamin C and fiber. It's a paleo, gluten free, vegetarian recipe with 300 calories and it took about ten minutes to prepare.

Mango Turmeric Smoothie with Ginger

I gave this recipe three out of five stars, but I had to substitute orange and apple for the precut mango since the mango package broke open during shipping. Perhaps I would have liked it more if I had been able to use the mango. It had too much ginger, but my apple helped add some sweetness. Anytime you taste a smoothie and you don't like the flavor or need to add some sweetness, just add an apple. It always solves the problem without changing the flavor too much. This is a paleo, gluten free, vegetarian recipe with 190 calories and it took about ten minutes to prepare.

It wasn't our favorite week of recipes and there were a few ingredient issues, but this isn't typical for Sun Basket. Normally most recipes are four and five stars and there are rarely ingredient issues. Though I don't recommend ordering any recipe that has the cauliflower chopped up in advance since the majority of the time it hasn't arrived in bad shape. Cauliflower doesn't ship well after it's been cut up into small pieces. I still highly recommend this weekly food subscription box since it's still at the top of our list. They gave us a generous credit for the issues this week. Check out my Sun Basket Pinterest Board to see photos of all the Sun Basket recipes we have made so far.
