This is a review of our 46th shipment from a food subscription box called Home Chef. This week we gave all three recipes four out of five stars. Calories ranged from 426 to 918 and preparation time indicated on the recipe cards ranged from twenty-five minutes to forty minutes. Actual preparation time ranged from fifty to sixty minutes. One recipe was low calorie, gluten free and low carb.

Pigs in a Blanket with Red Bell Pepper, Spinach & Egg Scramble

We enjoy having breakfast for dinner sometimes, so we ate this in the evening. I wasn't sure if I'd like sausage wrapped in a pancake, so I was delighted to find it scrumptious and the eggs were enjoyable. I would have given it five stars if they had used a higher quality sausage and added a bit of spice to the eggs. We used our own maple syrup since the brand they sent us has corn syrup in it. The red pepper was a bit wilted on the outside, I guess due to the box having too many ice packs for this time of year. I'm still receiving the same amount of ice packs I receive in the summer. I had to throw away some of the scallions and spinach since they went bad, you can see how much we had left in the above photo. It was a generous portion, so I saved some of my eggs for breakfast the next day. The calorie count on this recipe is 631 and it took an hour to make while the recipe states only thirty-five minutes. It may have taken Hubby a bit less time if we hadn't been chatting most of the time.

Salmon Crusted with Everything Bagel Seasoning with Chive Sour Cream, Arugula Salad & Lemon Caper Vinaigrette

We have purchased this recipe three times now because it's excellent! This time we gave it four out of five stars instead of five. It didn't seem like we received as much Everything Bagel Seasoning as we had previously and the shallot was very strong. I love shallot, but this one irritated my tongue since it was so strong. The chive sour cream was awesome as usual, but we would have liked a little bit more. The salad would have been more enjoyable, if the shallot hadn't been so pungent. Another subscriber mentioned that Amazon sells the Everything Bagel Seasoning, so I will be purchasing that soon so that we can make this on our own next time. It's so delicious, I highly recommend you give this seasoning a taste. This is a low calorie meal with only 426 calories. It's a light meal, so we were snacking a couple of hours later. Perhaps it would be better suited for lunch. Preparation time was fifty minutes yet the recipe indicates thirty-five.

Baked Italian Sausage Farfalle with Parmesan Garlic Bread

I was a bit nervous about this recipe since I wasn't sure if it would be as tasty as I hoped. I'm happy to report we gave it four out of five stars. We thought the sausage they chose for this recipe was delicious. The marinara sauce jar is missing from the ingredient photo above because it arrived cracked and it was leaking and had to be thrown away. Also, it leaked over some of the pasta, so we used our own pasta and marinara sauce. This one came in at 918 calories, but I had leftovers since it was such a large portion. Preparation time was fifty-five minutes while the recipe states forty minutes.

Well it was an enjoyable week even though we had a few ingredient issues. I just received an email indicating they are giving me a generous $39.90 credit for the ingredient issues. I would prefer that they have less high calorie dishes or reduce the portion size to lower the calorie count. I'm not a big fan of having leftovers since I don't tend to eat them. But if you prefer large portions, it's perfect for you. Have you tried any food subscription services yet? If so, which one is your favorite?
