This is a review of our 45th shipment from a food subscription service called Home Chef. We gave one recipe five out of five stars and two recipes four out of five stars. The preparation time ranged from thirty to fifty-five minutes and the calorie ranged from 568 to 1000 calories. Actual cooking times ranged from thirty-three minutes to sixty. Two recipes are vegetarian and one is low calorie. All of the ingredients arrived in good shape and the eggplant was huge.
Spooky Turkey Cauldron Pie with Vegetables & Puff Pastry
I just had to order this recipe since the crust was too cute not to. It was a bit tricky getting it to roll out large enough. Oops, I just realized I forgot to give him his bottom tooth. They didn't give us any flour to coat the rolling pin with, so I used some Bisquick I had on hand. We gave this recipe four out of five stars. To improve it we recommend cooking the carrots longer and prior to the mushrooms. I felt it had too many mushrooms, but Hubby said it was perfect. It was a tasty combination of ingredients. I would have preferred a baked recipe instead of stove top since the presentation required a baking dish. It was a waste of a dish just for presentation. This one had 744 calories and it was a very generous portion. It took forty-two minutes to prepare. The recipe states 35-35 minutes for preparation time.
Broccoli Cheddar Soup with Baked Bread Bowl
Who doesn't love soup in a bread bowl! Any time they have one of these recipes I order it since it's always been delicious and it's the perfect meal for fall. We gave this one four out of five stars. We felt it needed a bit of spice to liven it up in order to give it five stars. The sourdough bread was really yummy and we added butter to the lids that Hubby cut out of the bread to make the bowls. This one has 1000 calories, but we didn't eat the bottom of the bread bowl that was soaked with soup, so that makes it less calories. It was a generous portion. It took minutes to thirty-three minutes to prepare. The recipes says it will take 30-40 minutes to prepare.
Eggplant Lasagna with Artichokes & Ricotta Cheese
Hubby gave this one five out of five stars, but I didn't like it as much. I gave it three stars since I wasn't crazy about the texture of the meal, but the flavor was very enjoyable. This recipe has 568 calories and it took and hour to prepare. It was cooked in the pan and then baked in the same pan which saves on dish clean up time. It was a generous portion of food with possible leftovers for a small lunch. The recipe indicated 45-50 minutes of preparation time.
Well it was another enjoyable week of recipes and we especially enjoyed the fall theme with the spooky crust and the bread bowl.
