This is a review of a weekly subscription box called Home ChefOut of the five recipes we gave two five stars, two four stars and one three out of five stars. It was an amazing week of recipes that we were delighted by.

Each week they offer twelve recipes and a fruit basket to chose from. One is a smoothie, one is breakfast and usually three of them are vegetarian. Some are low calorie, low carb and some are gluten free. Each dinner is $9.95, breakfast is $9.95, smoothies are $4.95 and the fruit is $4.95. Shipping is free for orders of $40 or more.

Classic Christmas Ham with Pineapple Clove Glaze, Potatoes Au Gratin & Roasted Broccoli

What a wonderful meal we had on Christmas Eve! We don't really enjoy having a ton of ham leftovers, so this was perfect for us. We gave this retro recipe four out of five stars. It was amazingly delicious! The ham was tender and thick and the sauce was perfection. The Potatoes Au Gratin were a healthier version, but I would have preferred a bit more cheese. I also prefer my broccoli steamed rather than baked. It was a generous portion and I shared lots of my ham with our dogs, but I could have easily saved part of it for a snack later. This recipe took about forty-five minutes to prepare and it had 723 calories. If they offer this recipe again, I will definitely order it again.

Christmas Style Beef Burrito with Red & Green Chile Sauces

In one word this dish is awesome! We gave it five out of five stars and were delighted by it's flavor. The sauces were perfectly seasoned and the lettuce, tomatoes and onions were very fresh. It was an easy dish to prepare and it was a very generous portion. It took about thirty-five minutes to prepare and it had 955 calories. Though I couldn't eat it all and saved a little less than half for lunch the next day, so that makes it less calories. Hubby ate it all and was stuffed. This is a nice alternative for tacos.

Mango Tango Smoothie with Pineapple, Orange, Yogurt & Honey

If you've ever had an Orange Julius you'll know what this tastes like, it's just the mango version. I was a bit nervous because I'm not a big fan of mango, but this was scrumptious. There was a lot of the orange flavor coming through. It's simple and easy, just blend 1 navel orange, 8 oz mangos, 5.3 oz greek yogurt, 2 tsp. honey and 6 oz pineapple juice. This recipe had 262 calories. We gave it four out of five stars.

Salmon Cakes with Spinach Salad & Asian Sesame Dressing

This was our favorite recipe for the week and we gave it five out of five stars. The salmon cakes were so heavenly and gourmet. It reminds me of something you would order from a fine restaurant and crave it constantly thereafter, but cringe at the price. We can't wait to make these salmon cakes again. If you are a fan of sushi, you'll love these. If you would like to taste sushi but can't stomach the idea of raw seafood, try this since it's the perfect substitute. Simply mix two salmon filets finely chopped, two minced garlic cloves, half tsp. salt, three chopped cilantro sprigs and 2 tbsp. Sriracha. Divide into four equally sized balls and form into 3/4" thick cakes. Place in the freezer for ten minutes to firm up. Cook the cakes in a pan on medium heat with 2 tsp. olive oil for two minutes per side. The Sriracha Mayo is also scrumptious! Combine 2 oz of mayo, 3 chopped cilantro sprigs, 1 tsp Sriracha, salt and pepper. Just thinking about this recipe is making me hungry! I can't wait to eat this again! The salad was also good and the dressing was very tasty. This recipe took about thirty minutes to prepare and it had 625 calories.

Chicken Marsala with Buttery Garlic Mushroom Sauce

We gave this recipe three out of five stars. This was our least favorite recipe out the five recipes. While it was tasty and we ate it all, it just wasn't anything special. This is the first time I have tried Chicken Marsala. Hubby has had it in restaurants many times and says the sauce in this recipe was lacking. It may have been better if there was less pasta or more sauce. The mushrooms were really delicious and the highlight of the meal. The sauce took longer than indicated on the recipe. It took about thirty-five minutes to prepare and it had 919 calories. It was a very generous portion and I shared some of the pasta with our dogs.

What a delightful week of recipes this was. I love how they had several Christmas recipes to chose from. They even had dessert for a change. For New Year's they added appetizers which I'm so anxious to try on New Year's Eve. Today we received the following recipes:
  1. New Year's Eve Appetizers - Jalapeño Poppers with Bacon, Roasted Red Pepper and Cream Cheese & Mini Pork Meatball Tacos
  2. Brazilian Shrimp Moqueca with Coconut Tomato Sauce, Zucchini, Grape Tomatoes & Mashed Rutabagas
  3. Italian Sausage Farfalle with Mascarpone Basil Parmesan Sauce
  4. Miso Honey Bone-in Pork Chops with Pepper Mushroom Stir Fry
I also wanted to order the Chia Gingerbread Smoothie, but at 624 calories I had to pass. Some of their smoothies are very low in calories and equally as delicious, so I like to stick to those. I'm going to be more conscious of the calories per dish and order more low calories recipes for the New Year.

Are you planning on watching your calories in the New Year too? Then join me in the Home Chef experience! Their low calorie dinners are just as tasty as their high calorie ones, they have generous portions and they don't taste like typical diet food. I dare you to take my $30 coupon and join today.
